Nobody mentions how the TV deal is far better off having a second NZ side
The stadium is a factor here too - it's one shining example in Australasia where everything was done RIGHT.

CBD location? Check.

Rectangular build? Check.

Fully enclosed? Check.

Capacity just right? I'd argue that's a check too. Crowds aren't what they used to be, and any more than 30k (games) and 36k (concerts) would have been wasted - especially for many regular season games.

Get a team there, and just see how that creates a demand for covered stadiums in Australia.

Haha f**k me.

All these Bears wankers and @Wb1234 just kept howling at people to shut up, as they had the inside running.

And anyone who dared suggest 2027 was to soon would be abused.

Let's be honest, the Bears need to f**k right off of any further expansion discussions for WA.
They’re literally the only part of negotiations not causing problems.

So what’s happened is the terms and conditions within the prior made in-principle agreement were broken by WA Gov. This applies to the stadium funding.

What was agreed to last year and pre-election wasn’t upheld when the parties met on Thursday. The numbers that the NRL asked never changed.

NRL went into the meeting believing it was a simple chat of how they’d announce the new franchise, instead were blind side by the WA Gov pulling out stadium upgrade funding. The grassroots funding was right in the money though.

It isn’t over and isn’t the end. Just pushed back a few months. It gives NRL time to finalise the broadcast deal and it’ll give WA time to reassess their stadium upgrade commitment.

From the outside it clearly looks like labor were spooked by all the noise from Seven & the afl during the election and it’s now backed them into a corner on funding.

How much money are they offering to put in again ?
You may be asking this thinking it was a donut, but Bears officials apparently surprised a lot of attendees at their AGM last week saying they intended on investing a percentage into the NRL owned and operated model since they weren’t allowed a seat at the table with the consortium

It’ll be announced in four weeks, and then four weeks after that, etc, etc lol.
Initially I honestly didn’t think that the announcement would be ready for the NRL double header, then everybody was saying this and saying that and I got my hopes up yet again, maybe we can hope for June for the State of Origin decider in Perth ?.

I find that crazy when you consider grounds like Kayo and shark park are acceptable to the NRL.

It’s all better off.

add WA for a new timeslot and that’s still only those HBF home games that can start later. Add a second NZ and now the 2+ hour timeslot has more to chose from than just the Wahs
I think it fills a better timeslot anyway. A 6pm timeslot becomes prime time NZ .
There's an extra few in Perth but that's not Prime time.
The NRL could feature a NZ team in Prime time Friday night Every week of the season in NZ.

This whole dispute is about money …. Here your Bears are still to decide after about 2 years if they will contribute even $1… I doubt the NRL are even taking this into account in their decision making process

so it’s easy from the Bears perspective to be the party that is “causing no problems “

$200 into HBF wouldn't change that though. But it seems it would Trump the NZ bid.
It wouldn't change that no. There's many nuances to this, a revitalise HBF sure. A run down HBF .. not so sure..

It doesn't make any sense anyway. Why wouldn't the WA government want a brand new beautiful stadium?
Christchurch are building one with no where near the finances of the WA Government.
Perth want to be a big city and attract workers, then they have second class facilities.
It screams of AFL f**kery

Afl put in the pot for tassie
$15mil contribution to stadium
$33mill to elite pathway costs
$10mill towards a CofE
$93mill to grassroots

total contribution minus the annual grant is $151million

again I ask what’s the nrl contributing to perth? If you’re going. To use Tassie as an ask precedent then you also have to look at what everyone is putting in.
They are committing 25m in return for nearly a billion dollars in infrastructure funding. The Australian & Tasmanian taxpayer is quite literally subsidising the expansion of a billion dollar sporting code.

Pushed back a few months … and after TV deal which could be drawn out to late in the year …

So 2027 is off the table and they may choose to only bring one team in for 2028 ( PNG) …

So in reality the entry year could be pushed back to 2029…

In the meantime … I hope the NRL call out Cook publicly if this is the reason for the apparent backflip
