So the game should aim to learn from the mistakes of GC or repeat it?

Hey? I think you are at cross purposes again … I’m actually saying the stadium they played out of initially had limited to no reason for the initial struggles of the expansion teams in general over the past 40 years or so … it’s more to do with it taking time to build a competitive team from scratch

Everyone wants to see HBF upgraded, but we understand why, politically, its been taken off the table for now.
If youre asking would I rather see a Perth Bears club playing at the current HBF with $7mill a year flowing to WA grass roots, or no Perth Bears, no grassroots funding and little chance in the future of ever seeing it, I think Im taking the choice #1!

See that’s not a bad argument

Well mate … it looks like now they aren’t playing out of any stadium in Perth , new or old ..

Is that a good outcome?
Eventually a deal will be done. And delaying team 19 by a few years wouldn't be a bad thing either. It staggers expansion.

At the moment, the NRL's top priority will be negotiating a new tv rights deal. And they really need to take their time with their negotiations. Allow room for bidding tension.

I'm not sure they wanted to go to the broadcast negotiations with PNG being the extra game.

Optus stadium itself was around $900mill, it was all the work around it, parklands, new train lines, footbridge over the river that added the other $900mill.
It's still in the majority taxpayers money, whether State or Feds.It is still total costs ,whether it is the stadium itself or all the bells & whistles, landscaping, lakes, lyrebirds etc thrown in.
You buy a new house that is landscaped ,that is part of the total cost.
I have no argument about Optus stadium being built in an AFL dominated state with a much larger population, but if Tasmania which is a darn side poorer than WA can get a state of the art stadium , then perhaps the WA Govt could've opened their purse strings a little more for the Bears. With 3 codes sharing the rectangle stadium.
Just saying.

Go back further if applies to Penrith and sharks and dogs too (took Penrith 20 years to make their first finals)

Used to be it took a club 50 years from entry in the nswrl to win a comp

Canberra took seven
Illawarra never
Warriors never
Cowboys 20 years
Broncos took 4 years with an origin side

I only went back as far as I saw myself… im not as old as others here … a lot of those teams were terrible those first couple of years

I don’t care what anyone says this weekend will be crucial

Cookie is upset details got leaked and is throwing a hissy fit and making the nrl pay for it

Pvl says they weren’t responsible for the leaks

I don’t think expansion should be put on hold if this falls over chch bears could be ready to go in 2027 or 2029

There’s nothing stopping Perth being team 20

This is an ego thing now between Pvl and cook. I can’t see how Pvl accepts this bid now it’s a slap in the face for him after what he’s told the clubs.

I doubt the clubs or nswrl / qrl would support this bid now in its current guise without a license fee, needing contribution from the nrl directly and weak govt support

Again. Who owns the NRL?

You think the other clubs want to be in the situation where they are paying for a competitor?

they are the ones pulling the strings here
Obviously not them as the NRL were going to own and fund the club. This is what he was going to take to them.

Imagine they had internet forums when Penrith and Cronulla were added with their massive populations of 20k people in places on the far edge of civilisation

What would people have said of their chances

I am interested to see where the NRL and broadcast partners schedule the ninth game.

Maybe for the first half of the season, have Sunday night 6:15pm to coincide with daylight savings and public holidays, while in the second half, have four games on Saturday- 2pm, 4pm,6pm and 8pm.

And when Perth comes in, possibly at the backend of the next deal, the Sunday 6:15pm game becomes full time.

Rumour is it will go to the commission meeting tomorrow for a decision with Vlandys advocating for no Perth and to move on with tv negotiations with 18 clubs. Looks like we will be put out of our misery tomorrow!

Didn’t realise Port Moresby had the same time as Sydney lol

Day games in png could be a bit of a punish with the heat

They could held full Friday 6 pm

The running the Sunday night games for the rest of the games

Channel nine will never want to show them so Thursday and Friday nights plus Sunday 4 are a no go

Misery? Your meltdown has been a forum highlight. I think you outdid the last one but another formal rejection from the NRL will likely see you reach new heights.
Maintain the rage mate! You got this!

Going to market with only one new team being png and hopes to cut the number of rounds back by two isn’t exactly a great plan for the tv negotiations

The extra content was important

Might cost them 50 million pa which is stupid given the new club would cost less than half that.
