If they are still getting sell out crowds then I don’t think their form matters one bit

The club has one the highest turnovers out of any Australian football code on top of paying the wafl a licensee fee of around ten million pa

The good thing about rugby league is the sport isn’t delusional to think it can take over in wa like they are trying to do in nsw and qld

Perth bears will find their own nieche will be bigger then the storm

League can probably get more of the wa market than it ever can In vic

With only two fumbler clubs there’s a lot of room in Perth. Esp as the glory and force are on borrowed time
While what you're saying is true, it's far easier for a Perth NRL team to carve out that niche if the local AFL teams are underperforming - hence what we've seen from AFL/AFL-aligned media.

They know that their game is weak on the field in WA currently, and they wanna throw as much noise as possible to delay the Perth/WA Bears until the local AFL clubs are doing better on the field.

That would be a great achievement. The Storm are bigger than half the NRL now, so I'm glad you're so gung ho on Perth, after actively cheering against it for years.

The NRL’s expansion into Perth appeared dead in the water earlier this week, but Western Australia Premier Roger Cook has declared he is desperate to make the deal happen as he

present from start to finish at the NRL double-header at Perth Stadium on Saturday.

Saturday’s matches – Cronulla vs. Manly and South Sydney vs. North Queensland – could not have come at a worse time for the Premier, with negotiations over a proposed new NRL franchise plunged into doubt last week.
As negotiations soured, Cook accused the NRL of treating his state like a “cash cow”, after falling short of requested funding and it appeared all hopes of the Bears entering the competition for 2027 were all but over.

However, in a statement of intent, Cook was present from an hour before kick-off for the first game of the NRL double-header, until well after the full-time siren, and told Fox Sports he is “determined” to get the deal over the line.
“We are determined to make it (a deal with the NRL) happen,” he reportedly told Fox Sports’ Lara Pitt.

Both parties are expected to return to the negotiating table for a last-ditch bid to resolve the issue next week.

It comes after South Sydney coach Wayne Bennett told Perth fans to not give up hopes of having their own team.

Locals are largely keen for a team in Perth, and Bennett told them to keep pushing hard after seeing how successful the Dolphins have been in their first few years after initial fears that the area didn’t need another franchise.

“Don’t give up,” Bennett said.

“I came here in the ’90s for the first time when the Western Reds were here.

“I can’t believe the growth of the game here and the interest in the game and how many people recognise you now.
“Perth’s ready for it, I know they want it, so I just hope they get a deal done, and I’m sure they will.

“I’m very optimistic that they’ll have a team here and it will be great for the game.

“It’s a great place, a great sporting state and would give us more assets to players that would be playing here with junior football and an NRL team here as well. I don’t think we’d come if we didn’t think it was value long term.

“So I’m sure the NRL is prepared to back their decisions. They backed the Dolphins three years ago and a lot of people didn’t think that should have happened, but that’s been a great success story.

“So I’m sure Perth will be the same – Papua New Guinea is coming as well.”

Lara Pitt said that Cook is a Souths supporter. I thought “no wonder he is hard to deal with”.

Maybe if nrl had agreed to tip in $150mill like AFL is doing in tassie the wa govt may have been a bit more generous?
One billion dollars including two upgraded stadiums which the afl isn’t contributing a cent too

Looks like afl have higher standards for their expansion teams than we do which is a shame

Hopefully the camera for bears home games only pans to the right side in a 90 degree arc

Your comparing an AFL state expansion to a non-heartland expansion .... having a higher government contribution is understandable.

Nrl putting zero in, afl putting in$150mill. Might be reflective of the end outcome maybe?

I know we’ll play at optus and say the wa govt has invested $1.8 billion into the game. That seems to be your logic re Christchurch lol

Nrl have said they will match govt junior funding

So where’s the one billion for a rectangular stadium in wa

That Burswood precinct does look good too

The views back to the city with the river were beautiful

You think with the nrl matching the 60 million in funding wa will get a billion spent on a rectangular stadium ? Lol

The afl contribution is to match the state govt contribution for annual club funding and separate to the stadium situation

The Tasmanian govt is doing everything it can to sort out the two stadiums which already are in great shape

But hey beggars can’t be choosers right ?

I’m asking you to provide a link where the nrl has committed to matched funding.

afl have also guaranteed $9mill above standard base funding of other clubs for 10 years.

So tassie govt putting in $144mill to club plus $375mill for stadium
afl putting in $150mill to stadium and grassroots and $90mill extra club funding

meanwhile wa govt putting in $60-70mill and nrl nothing committed publicly Hmm.
