A team losing every game season after season is a shit look for the competition too.Unfortunately a packed stadium in PNG isn't generating much income though.

They (allegedly) paid $20mill a few years back for a test match, origin, nines and a couple of nrl games.![]()
*Under the terms of the final agreement over Perth, it is understood the WA government has committed to spend:
- $35 million on grassroots football over the next seven years;
- $25 million on content over the next five years; and
- nearly $6 million on helping with costs of the new side.
While the WA government will not pay a licence fee, a further $20 million will be committed to a Centre of Excellence with a promise that there will likely be an upgrade of their home ground - HBF Stadium.
This masthead understands that the ARL Commission will run the new Perth franchise for a minimum of five years before it becomes a member-based club.*
Some good detail here that I haven't seen in other articles. The most intriguing one to me is the 25 million dollars for content over 5 years.
Interesting what it could be for, assuming it would cover 2 origin games in that period plus a double header and game at hbf each year.
From memory they paid 5 million for an origin and double header for 1 year a while back which would leave a lot of value to be recouped in other content to reach 25 million. Could they get magic round one year or something similar. Maybe just some more double headers and games at hbf until 2027?

id suggest maybe nines, rlwc games, origin and maybe a few double headers. If we had the opening game of the first three seasons as perth bears v someone and say souths v warriors it would be massive at optus and could go close to selling out,
Can’t see magic weekend leaving brisbane.
bit dissapointed if those figures are true though. I was hoping the previously media speculated $50mill for grassroots was true, thats of far more value to the game in wa than the nrl getting money for events.
im guessing the $6mill is the value of rent free stadium and free transport on game day,
can someone post full article? What are some clubs furious about?![]()

He seemed to do a pretty good job building the Parra squad from bottom of table to a grand final? Yeh he isnt mr personality but then not many coaches are! As long as we go with someone who is experienced and has a track record of being able to build a team then that will be fine for our first few years.Sorry but if Brad Arthur is the best they can do for a first off coach then the coaching ranks are horrific. He has zero personality and is average at best as a coach. If the coach has to be average at least get someone with a pulse who can excite the locals.
So if that article is close
$35mill for grassroots
$20mill for Malaga training centre
$6mill for stadium free rent etc
$25mill to buy events
+$10mill for temp facilities at Ken Allen field
all up close to $100mill WA investment
hopefully hbf gets its west stand on next 5 years.
sorted, let’s get this ball rolling!
Allegedly $500k eachthe clubs have been promised a million each apparently… that’s got to be come from somewhere right ?
Allegedly $500k each

Clubs offered $500k sweetener to get Perth NRL team over the line
Rugby league’s governing body has agreed to a revised bid to revive the North Sydney Bears as the NRL’s 19th team, in Perth, from 2027. But the other clubs need to sign off.www.afr.com
Yeh Ive noticed that. Either they think they can knock Malaga up quick, but seems unlikely given the site works for the whole precinct needed, or they just arent mentioning it and have hidden it away in the Ken Allen field project funding thats been committed to Freo council. Given the sensitivity around total spend on this wouldn’t surprise me if it’s just been secreted away. Or they could have come up with a different temp option and be hiring somewhere I suppose? The $10m temporary field thing hasn’t been mentioned for a couple of months …maybe that got squeezed out
Sounds like it was $500k for Perth entry plus 500k they will get regardless due to financial performance I. 2024 (which is a built in license agreement)I was reading in the Tele today Is was a $1m each

You can bet your bippi once we get to 20 teams , there will be 2 Conferences. Sir Peter the Spartan has hinted as such.If the NRL ends up adding teams in twos, I imagine the balance will be adding a low-risk team and high-risk team in each phase.
So teams 21 & 22 would perhaps be Ipswich & Adelaide - a relatively safe SEQ team plus a team in AFL-land.
Likewise 23 & 24 being NZ 3 (relatively safe) & Fiji.
Bringing it back to the current phase, we've had the Dolphins (a safe option), then we'll have Perth (AFL-land BUT a pretty cashed-up state, AND a known Bears brand to mitigate any risk), and PNG (risky).. team 20 will be very interesting, and I wonder how much risk the NRL wants to take there, to balance PNG & Perth.
Brad Arthur strikes me as a Brian Smith-ish "turn around" coach - the kinda coach who can lift a club from cellar to comfortably mid table/regular playoffs, BUT somehow can't instill the attitude to win in playoffs - especially Grand Finals. He seemed to do a pretty good job building the Parra squad from bottom of table to a grand final? Unless you are named Lachlan Galvin.lol, not unless they give us double the salary cap! Look at how hard Redcliffe found it to land star players in year 1. reality is if you want to prise a quality player away from his current team you have to pay significant overs. A solid experienced squad with one big name player and some SL talent will do for year 1 and 2.
Barring some fortune or Devine intervention the chances of Perth being title contenders in the first 5-10 years are very slim. We need a coach that can install the right culture for the club from day one, have a vision for the clubs teams at all age groups and be strong in building pathways and who can get the very best out of avg players. History would suggest finishing above 13th in table for first couple of years is a win and getting into a top 8 position in first 5 years is a big achievement.Brad Arthur strikes me as a Brian Smith-ish "turn around" coach - the kinda coach who can lift a club from cellar to comfortably mid table/regular playoffs, BUT somehow can't instill the attitude to win in playoffs - especially Grand Finals.
Now, how much of that's his ability level & how much is the cursed-ness of Parra.. I dunno, but with Perth he has an opportunity to prove the naysayers wrong about his teams' September/October abilities.
