The Sydney market is already saturated; adding the Bears won’t increase TV audiences in Sydney; nor would it attract new sponsors focused on a NSW market.

The biggest benefits of a Perth based side are:
- Growing the league to 18 teams means an extra game a round; which
—Access to an additional time slot; with the potential to hold a 9:30pm Saturday game; and more regular 6pm Sunday games. Timeslots that are more viewer friendly for South African, Middle Eastern & European audiences— especially if the focus is growing the gambling markets. This is particularly beneficial for DAZN (the new Pay TV rights holders)
— The ability to gain more fans in a new market. As someone said recently; there is a large population of Polynesians & South Africans in Perth that will support League.
- Fixturing the Perth side so it doesn’t clash with the Eagles will be effective at growing crowds; as fans on the Eagles “waitlist” for memberships will attend NRL games if they don’t clash with watching the Eagles on TV
Yes there's an extra game...
Will NSW tune in though? A lot more because it's the Bears!

Don’t forget the Fremantle Dockers fans, West Coast linger at the bottom of the AFL table whereas the Dockers sit just outside of the top 8.
Both WA AFL teams are struggling to find anything that resembles form and consistency.

State politics gets tied up with Feds though.

In Vic, the State polling is affecting the Fed polling.

But putting all that aside it's PR 101. You don't announce something like this during the biggest news week of the year.
Despite the efforts of 'the west' it wasn't even a state election issue.

Haha my point is you dont think he’s ceo material but two nrl clubs do. Think I’ll go with their opinion over yours.
2 historically poorly managed clubs, yes.

Also mate your opinion has been completely wrong on so many things regarding this Perth Bears NRL franchise this entire time. It’s no big loss if you don’t see eye to eye here. However, maybe if you had taken any thing I said of note in the last 6-8 months into consideration you wouldn’t have come across as a sensationalist petulant child at times in an abundance of your posts.

On the point, you need a CEO that is commercially catered to business operations in non- heartland territory. They need to be able to face media, would-be commercial partners, and stakeholders otherwise not brought up in rugby league loving house holds.

There is various differing parameters to a CEO that is required for a Perth based franchise which should be likened to the Melbourne Storm CEO position rather than say any other CEO that operates in rugby league heartland.

Peter would do a fantastic job as a football department manager and/or operations general manager. He would assist a head coach to great effect. But he isn’t the sort of bloke you position as a CEO for a start up club in a non-heartland state. So no, he isn’t CEO material.

Freo fans don’t have a waitlist for memberships, that’s why it’s clever to target Eagles fans who are on the waitlist and can’t currently get membership seats to see a live sporting event every 2 weeks.

The “Bears” haven’t been a top league side in 25 years and will be based in Perth.

How many disenfranchised “Bears” supporters exist in NSW that don’t already have another side or watch NRL weekly?
It's not disenfranchised supporters, it's anyone who respects history, likes a comeback story or loves an underdog.
That's who I'm talking about, all those Sydney league fans will have the Bears as thier second team.
The disenfranchised? Not many boomer Bears fans really but it isn't Zero. The Bears fans total in existence including the one's who've moved on are probably 200k ,sure they've moved on but having their first club back in doubles thier interest.

Watch the ratings. The return of the Bears will be a hit.

“Having the Bears as their second team” isn’t going to increase the viewership of the game; it’s not going to increase Kayo/Foxtel sign-ups.

Focusing on an already saturated market isn’t going to increase the profitability of the league or the TV rights deal.

The biggest benefits of this deal is the location; being in Western Australia. Not satisfying a few nuffies who want another team based in Sydney

If the actual name is Perth Bears, then that is a great move. Commentators, journos, players, coaches, CEOs and us fans will call them "Perth" or "Bears."If the name was Western Bears, then pretty much everyone would call them just "Bears".

In the end, it will be a Perth team, barring one home game away. Although majority of clubs lose a home game anyway, whether it's Magic Round, Vegas, Bathurst, Central Coast etc.
