haha AI. very artificial not so intelligent.
I’m sure your recollections from when you were living in Hull at the time would be much more accurate

I thought we already got a few new clubs come in from a few chairman's ago.Do you think in 2 years time, anyone is going to care about how negotiations took place? Love him or hate him, at the end of the day, PVL will manage to get at least 3 new clubs established, a massive increase in funding from Federal and State governments and achieve record revenues from broadcasters and other commercial interests during his tenure. What did the last few chairmen and CEOs achieve?
yeh buying in tickets in 1999 like I did every month Id have no idea lolI’m sure your recollections from when you were living in Hull at the time would be much more accurate

Not just group discountsI wonder if airlines give group discounts ? Do you know? For someone buying hundreds of tickets a year
Average salary in 95 was 33k
Nrl players were earning 100k if they were good
But pr thinks people were paying 1200 bucks on return flights to Perth
OK mate. There's around 50 to 100 people actively posting on here. 4 or 5 at least I've seen are Bears fans. That's 5%
5% of 5 million is 250,000.
It's probably not that but it's not negligible.
It'll show up in the ratings, you'll see
Honestly. You're going to a lot of effort to
ignore the existence of a demographic.
Good interview and nice to hear Billy speak so well about perth. Interesting bit of chatter about targeting Sth Africa for players.Just heard Florimo and Moore speak about the bid. It makes sense to bring back the Bears on a range of fronts. Get it done NRL!
The devil is going to be in the details. Done well, it could be the best of both worlds. Done poorly and it could be an absolute mess.Let me preface this post by saying I'm really happy we have Perth and the Bears back in the NRL.
However, are the Bears really back? Sure, there's a team in Perth called the Bears coming in. But it's not a relocated North Sydney Bears, they will still exist in North Sydney. It's not owned by North Sydney, the NRL owns it and will sell to a 3rd party in 5 years that probably won't be North Sydney and if it is, the fact that they'd have to buy their own team back proves that this isn't the North Sydney Bears back in the NRL. Colours? Sure but the Western Reds used red and black as two of their primary colours.
This isn't the North Sydney Bears returning to the NRL. I am however happy for the sake of the team's popularity that the media are feverishly pushing it as if it was North Sydney Bears coming back as a relocated team.
The majority of Bears fans would be 50+. The youngest Bears fans present in any significant number who grew up watching them play as a first grade team, and who can actually remember them from their childhood years, would be those born in the 80s. They’ve all already turned 40, or will be 40 by the end of this decade.pretty sure theres 4 bears fans in this thread alone who are on or under 40. this 50+ age thing is ridiculous and a myth.
to further prove what im saying do you actually think people like the literal hundreds of bears nsw cup, jersey flegg, sg ball and harold matts plus girls teams players over the years and their families dont support bears in some capacity considering they have family who has played for their respective bears line ups in the last 26 years since their last nrl appearance?
also do you think qrl clubs that were once brl clubs have fans who aged out because their comp didnt become the national one like nswrl to nrl did? ie norths, souths, easts, redcliffe, ipswich, burleigh, tweed etc etc etc
the rest of your post is goodun though mate, i agree with large parts of it.
Yep that was my experience in the 90s working in Sydney office(Exports) with some clients who dealt with our company who were either Bear's fans or casual ones. A couple of guys( one a rep, the other senior client) I know moved to union ,the rest I'd imagine flicked following other RL teams.Majority of Bears supporters just stopped watching rugby league instead of picking another club.
The most untapped goldmine in rugby league. Time to give that market a red hot crack.Good interview and nice to hear Billy speak so well about perth. Interesting bit of chatter about targeting Sth Africa for players.
A good mate of mine is a mad Bears supporter. He loosely followed Parra once the Bears were out but didn't follow them with great passion. He is still quite cautious about the most recent news....he has definitely not opened the champas by any means.Yep that was my experience in the 90s working in Sydney office(Exports) with some clients who dealt with our company who were either Bear's fans or casual ones. *face palm* re-read what you just replied to. Lmfao.NSO would not be used for a trial as cricket will have the rights to it.
The Bears NSW Cup play their first match at NSO this coming Sunday May 04 because of this agreement.
UhhThe participants of an online Rugby league forum is not reflective of the wider community. The analogy you have suggested is inaccurate; plus doesn’t really support your argument.
If you were to poll LU users; they’d have a significantly higher uptake of Foxtel/Kayo than the general population.
Growing the subscription base of Kayo/Foxtel is a leading factor of a new franchise; not creating another team in an already crowded market.
There is absolutely no way that 250,000 people in Sydney don’t currently support an NRL club or watch Rugby league that would support a club based in Perth.
There is a small group of fans who believe the nostalgia factor is larger than it really is; it’d lead to a spike in viewership for maybe half a season before the Sydney audience returns to the status quo
Shhhh and wait for the detail. The devil is going to be in the details. Done well, it could be the best of both worlds. Done poorly and it could be an absolute mess.
As you’ve noted, the Bears aren’t actually relocating, the North Sydney Bears will remain in Sydney, what will that mean for lower grades? If the Perth Bears are involved in the operations of two NSW Cup teams, a North Sydney team and a Perth team, it would involve a lot of costs. If the North Sydney Bears are intended to be the only NSW Cup team and they’re based in Sydney, how does that work for Perth based players and WA talent? Are WA juniors with a shot at making first grade expected to have to relocate to Sydney to train etc with the North Sydney Bears? And then once they do make first grade, relocate back to Perth?
If the North Sydney Bears are only affiliated with the Perth Bears, what’s to stop the new owners of the Perth Bears from starting their own Perth-based reserves team in the future to optimise for WA talent and operations and cutting North Sydney adrift.
