ARU ANNOUNCES WALLABIES 2002 SEASON
Story By: ARU
Date: 12/17/01 1:47:29 PM
The Vodafone Wallabies will play matches in Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and Melbourne in 2002, including two Tests against France in addition to the Tri Nations Series. The 2002 Bundaberg Rum Rugby Series will also see the Wallabies play the NZ Maori in Perth in a one-off match. ARU Managing Director John O’Neill says the 2002 programme gives the Vodafone Wallabies the opportunity to create another piece of history. "The Vodafone Wallabies will always be under the microscope as the reigning world champions. But they respond well to these challenges and next year have the chance to be the first team to win three successive Tri Nations crowns." "Australia also faces a strong challenge from France who have shown their quality with wins over the Wallabies and the Springboks in the past two months. And after this year’s very successful revival of matches against the New Zealand Maori, we welcome the Maori to Perth to open the season." Mr O’Neill says the venues for matches in 2002 reflects the Wallabies` national profile and the success of this year’s Test match programme across Australia. "All four cities that hosted the Wallabies this year saw sell-out crowds which is a first for Australian rugby. Television audiences also rose to record levels, reflecting the interest in those cities. We are confident we can achieve that result again in 2002."

Its about time Brisbane staged a Tri-Nations game! Thank God, I thought the ARU forgot about Brisvegas (gosh I hate that name!).

Is Wendell Sailor more likely to be named to the Wallabies for the game in Brisbane, in order to boost attendance? Or would it be sold out anyway?

The Wallabies will sell-out even if Wendell is not in the side. For the first time ever this season the Wallabies sold-out all test matches as the team saw unprecendented popularity this year. Tickets for the lions series and bledisoe game all sold out in under half-an-hour (must be some record).

Hello

Will be intersting on how the WannaBies go in the coming season, is the new coach good enough, or will he be a bad buy?

Time will tell, we'll see what happends.

Regards,
Aron Lal
