The official pre-season doesn't start until 4th April, however Joondalup have arranged a few games before then as our draw in the pre-season comp didn't suit our preperation. A bye on week1 (4th April), Easter weekend off on week2 (11th April), game1 on week3 (18th April), ANZAC weekend off on week4 (25th April), and game2 on week5 (2nd May).

2 games in 5 weeks just seemed a little bit scarse as far as games went. I'm looking forward to the 2009 season. Bring it on!!!

Today's results of the North Beach vs Joondalup trial match at Charles Riley Reserve:

Womens: Joondalup 28-0
Premier-Grade: North Beach 16-4
First-Grade: North Beach 20-12

From what I saw, there were basic errors from both teams, but it is for the most part the first game for the players for 2009. The exceptions being the Joondalup players who played in the First-Grade trial against Rockingham last weekend. Both teams in all grades will get better as the year goes on.

Next weekend's trial match (as far as I'm aware there is only one) is at Admiral Reserve for the Joondalup vs Central games. All grades will be playing.

Not over Easter, no. The only weekends off we have for the next while is the Easter weekend and the ANZAC weekend I think. Actually, I'm not sure about the weekend of the 4th April.

You'd have 3 games in the official pre-season comp. It's just that we have the bye in the first week of that comp (as Kalgoorlie aren't competing in the pre-season), followed by the Easter weekend, a game on the 18th, a weekend off for ANZAC Day, and a game the following weekend.

The WARL Pre-season kicks off this weekend (4th of April) with the first official trials for 2009.

A Great day of football is on the cards at Lark Hill Reserve in Port Kennedy which will see the North Beach v Rockingham & South Perth v Fremantle in all grades.

Willagee will be hosting the Central Bulldogz at Webber Reserve which again will see all grades take to the field.

Joondalup have been given a bye due to Kalgoorlie being unable to commit for pre season trials

The Tooheys Cup finally kicks off this weekend!!!

Round 1 will see

Joondalup Giants v Kalgoorlie Brothers
Rockingham Coastal Sharks v Central Bulldogz
South Perth Lions v Willagee Bears
Fremantle Roosters v North Beach Sea Eagles - Curtain raiser for the Reds

Good round 2 start the season off with, should be all good clsoe games except for South Perth v Willagee which i predict south Perth to knock them off by 90+ points

Round 1 Results

Tooheys Cup
Joondalup 48 - Kalgoorlie 12
South Perth 74 - Willagee 0
Fremantle 12 - North Beach 44
Central 28 - Rockingham 16

Reserve Grade
Joondalup - Bye
South Perth 64 - Willagee 0

North Beach 26 - Fremantle 26

http://www.warugbyleague.com.au/

Joodalup Giants started their season with promise as they lived up to their early season form beating Kalgoorlie Brothers 48 to 12. The Brothers held it strong for the first half being just behind at 4 to 6, but in their first full game of the season ran out of steam in the second.
Daniel Sneddon had a personal tally of 26 points for the Giants with 2 tries and 9 goals from 9. He was backed up by best player Daniel Jennings along with Nathan Searle and and Macey Howarth. The Brothers will prove a better side and will challenge others as they gain their match fitness.
North Beach Sea Eagles turned up the heat on Fremantle Roosters with a convincing 44 to 12 win at Ken Allen Filed in the curtain raiser to the WA Reds. The Sea Eagles never lost control after scoring in the first 2 minutes.
In the first half North Beach blew away Fremantle with a high paced game not allowing the Roosters in at all and went into the shed 38 to 4 up.
Best players for North Beach included Ryan Dickson with 16 points for the night and Luke Walker. Tashi Harrower was best for the Roosters with 2 tries.
South Perth Lions started 2009 as they finished last year with a 74 nil result over Willagee Bears. The Bears fought it out in the first half and went in with a 26 nil score line but could not sustain the effort.
Josh Clift was best for the Lions with 3 tries along with Jack Greenwood with 2. In solid game across the line, good games were put in by first up captain Reno Burkhardt and lock Michael Apps.
Central Bulldogs would be happy with a first up win against Rockingham Sharks with the final score being 28 to 16. Full back Tim Cook was outstanding for the Bulldogs with good games from both Conrad Ramer and Wes Valau.
The Bulldogs controlled the game throughout completing sets and holding on the ball well. Rockingham who had a very good pre season would be disappointed with losing the game especially at home.

Interesting stat but not good 4 Willagee! in the past 2 weeks Willagee have had 150 points scored against them with 0 points for!

Went to the Nth beach, it was shocking! The WARL needs to find a way to get teams closer together or stop charging for entry! It is the only game of RL I have ever left at HT through boredom!

Maybe loaning the Reds fringe players out to the struggling clubs is a solution?

You could of saved yourself $5 and watched a really good game of footy if u went an extra 15 mins north!

Willagee r the only team in the WARL that wont be competitive this year.

The clubs do get the Reds fringe players. We have Nathan Searle & Savi Hafoka?(who i doubt will play 4 us at all this year due to form)
