Robyalvaro,

In other international sports, a domestic competition is the place to start. Then when the domestic competition reaches a high enough standard, a national team of the best players is chosen to represent their country.

If rugby league chooses to do things differently, that's up to them. But it is usually better to build a good base before you select a national team. That's the way it is in all other sports.
I guess Lebanon RL has inspired others to follow the same path to success and now 10 or 11 local players will be selected for the lebanese national team in the Med cup ..... god knows what path the "italians" took though...

and the others are just starting and will hopefully prove they have the savvy of the lebanese.

Woods99,

In other international sports, another, much larger, sport hasn't utilised a century old campaign of victimisation and prejudice.

With all the animosity RL has had to put up with, it's a testament to the sport's durability and inherent qualities that it has survived, let alone developed from 22 clubs in a little strip of northern England.

Admit it, RU people must be in awe of RL's ability to beat off the evil empire and grow.

You mean Aussie passport holders like the ones who played for the Japanese RU side in the 2003wc.;-)
The Maltese are all oz based players with the exception of Rohan Spiteri.the aim is to get a local comp up and running, next year, following on from what the Lebanese did and now have a competition in that country.

I wasn't aware of any Aussie passport holders playing in the Japanese RWC team but i guess you like your union so much you must know alot .

Perhaps if they got a few more players they could get the avg number of RU player per club up to 13....... and then they could change a few rules etc etc etc..

That would be the way to go . And with the best international body in world sport , i guess theres no turning back .:)

i hate union, and i hate trolls, but sorry to say he does have a point. no other international sport has national teams made up of players who havent even been to the country they are representing.

have teams representing malta, greece etc for the dream of promoting the sport in these countries, but not to try and make the world cup. we would be laughing stock.
