Thats not quite correct. Magic round won't work in NZ for the broadcasters given the timing of the fixtures. But it would work exceptionally well for the game, for the fans and for the Warriors. Media can suck it up for one round for the greater good.

What expectation is there that NZ fans would turn up in numbers to magic round days not featuring the warriors anyways? Magic round as it currently stands has each day "main evented" so to speak by a QLD team or Melbourne. A magic round in Sydney could be similarly built around different Sydney clubs.

Yeah maybe they could remember that for, like, almost a a season or two? Too much to ask? It is MAGIC ROUND after all, no expectation it runs as normal. Adjust games an hour or so either way. I reckon NZ would LOVE some late night footy.

I say this as a fan of a club who has had NRL execs come out to visit the club to discuss how AFL was reclaiming the region (which had been staunchly NRL for 2 decades), eating the NRL alive in community involvement, schools, govt support & even local TV now. (I'm a PE teacher, seen firsthand how hard AFL is killing NRL school/community involvement).

Guess the NRL execs response? He said as far as NRL HQ is concerned that Canberra can "wither on the vine" (exact quote in record) as far as NRL HQ is concerned. When asked by the Raiders CEO if he was aware 30% of NRL players came from the Monaro, Southern NSW/ACT region repped by the Raiders... Nope, exec had no idea. Didn't care actually- not Sydney or Brisbane you see. Who gives a stuff. No media. No money.

So how about the NRL & greedy broadcasters who know & care nothing about 80% of the game give up one Bronco's EXTRA (magic) home game & a couple of hours of primetime to thank the club that kept the whole comp running, above & beyond every call of duty or personal need?

Brilliant idea with only one problem. They Sydney clubs dont care about being well run...

Offer them a quarter of a million$ for a game that would lose money in Sydney? "f*ck off. You cant buy the smell of sweat, meat pies and portable toilets on the suburban hill. History, its HISTORY!!!"

How does it actually help the warriors in any meaningful way.

Under my proposal they would still get a triple header which likely sells Eden park out.

I ask again, what expectation is there that the other 2 days would even get a decent crowd? When they hosted the 9s, the fans didn't generally turn up until close to the first warriors game of the day.

If there was another NZ based team you could build one of the other days around then it makes much more sense but there isn't. It would be like hosting it in Melbourne.

Personally I feel they should be trading their home games this year for away games, with their away games next year played in NZ.

Why should they trade anything?
They are making a massive sacrifice as it is, and did last year, Why should they be disadvantaged further?

realistically most clubs should be moving their home game v warriors to nz somwehere. those clubs then can get money through their own deals. etc

I think this season we should be allowed unlimited bench players and interchanges, the freedom to take heaps of peptides, and the refs be instructed to give us all 50/50 calls.

True but that isn't the issue at play. International travel hasn't been an issue for them in 2020 and 2021.

The point of letting them stay home in 2022 is compensation for time away from family. If the away games are going to be in other parts of NZ its not much different then going to Sydney in that respect.

Surely a couple of away games for Australian based members is still preferable?
