Warriors - Friday night football?

Will it ever happen?

Channel 9 hasn't covered a Warriors game since round 6 in 2004.

But with 2 Friday night games now surely the Warriors will have to get a game on Channel 9 eventually.

Looking through the draw only the Warriors and Raiders don't have a Channel 9 game in the first seven rounds...

I would love to see the Warriors playing some Friday night footy in the future...

Given the way they've started the year, it's a matter of when, not if.

An away game against Brisbane or Melbourne would be my bet.

Raiders may jag a Sunday game, if they improve.

I think the Warriors will get a Ch 9 game, now that there's 2 friday night games. Plus if theyre covering a Panthers game, then surely the Warriors will be covered sometime in the season, if they continue their good form.

Warriors deserve a game. Raiders... who would seriously watch them apart from radiers fans and the team they play against?

go f**k yourself you wanker.

ALL teams deserve a channel 9 game. and people wonder why we can't attract any marquee players when we are treated like this by channel 9.

I feel for the raiders and warriors teams and fans. It wasn't that long ago that the cowboys were being treated like redheaded step children by free to air tv. I thought that with the new tv deal the NRL would have put something in the contract about each team having a minimum amount of games being broadcast per season on free to air. I guess money is more important than growing the game.

Why would they kill the ratings by putting a boring team like Canberra on? Its a buisness not a charity.

the NRL needs to promote the game and should have had it in the channel 9 contract that ebvery team gets a minimum amount of games.

I am a raiders supporter but generally don't care because i have foxtel and go to most of the games but...

its very hard to pull yourself out of the gutter when your not getting any favours. Take souths for example they were done a massive favour in russel crowe taking over. if not for him they'd be in exactly the same position and they are a sydney team.

its definatley harder for the out of sydney teams and especially the smaller town teams. The NRL isnt doing enough to promote the game in all areas.

with the raiders lack of success in recent times it has been hard to get on TV. But our club has done what it has always done by bringing juniors through and promoting the game in the country areas surroundsing the ACT and not by poaching oher players from other sides. They should be rewarded for this type of promotion.

umm, because being the rights-holder for the game they should be promoting it and doing whatever they can to ensure it does not die in rugby league heartlands LIKE canberra?

and elliot isn't our coach anymore - our boring style is long gone, don't worry about that. i believe you mean penrith.

Its all well and good to blame channel nine, but they are after ratings not the good of the game.

In a perfect world everyone would get a go but.......

i actually agree with you simon... dam never thought id say that.

its not ch9's responsability to put teams like the raiders and warriors on... its the NRL's responsibility to get it into ch9's contract to get them to put it on.

ITs not really even about "growing the game" either. people are just as aware of friday night footy no matter whos playing, so whats left? which teams will rate higher.

they could put the raiders and warriors on friday night for 10 rounds straight, people are going to be just as aware of rugby league as they are now, the teams playing dont matter in that respect. What does make the difference is who will be interested enough to watch those games, thats where the raiders and warriors fall short.

I seem to remember that with the new TV deals all clubs were guaranteed a minimum of 2 FTA games a season.

well there are another 18 rounds to be scheduled. 6 FTA spots in each of them.

It is not implausible to broadcast the Raiders and Warriors atleast 4 times out of 108...

When the new TV schedules for 2007 came out (2 Friday games + Monday night footy) the Warriors were granted an exemption from Monday night games, but the club has said they might experiment with a couple of Friday night games on this side of the ditch.

But my understanding is that it's completely not up to the clubs to schedule their games ... the TV networks take their picks and the clubs have to fit in around that. Is that right?

Either way I'm not confident that Friday night games would work in Auckland. We've had the odd one here and there, the last one was in 2002 (against the Tigers, last round) I think. We'd have to be bloody confident that we could pull a decent crowd, and while it might happen later on, it's a bit early to be too confident about that I think.

As for Friday night away games in Aussie - I agree with the "not if, but when" comments above.

Yeah - agree, I think the only Warrior Friday night games would be those hosted
in Oz. Can't see them being in Auckland.
