Warriors given the green light.

The Warriors have officially been given clearance to travel across the Tasman and train in isolation by the Australian government, the NRL announced.

The approval comes after a dramatic day on Friday when ARL Commission chair Peter V'landys said the players had agreed to make the trip only for Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison to later reveal that their right of entry had not been finalised.

However, they received the green light on Saturday morning and will depart for the NSW city of Tamworth, where they have been permitted to train as a group in isolation in the lead-up to the resumption of the season on May 28.

“This is an excellent outcome for rugby league and another step towards the competition resuming on May 28,’’ V’landys said in a statement.

“I want to thank the Federal and State Governments, in particular Border Force and NSW State Emergency Operation Centre for their assistance in making the Warriors' arrival a reality.

“The club will follow the strictest biosecurity protocols and, like all clubs, will participate in an education day about the protocols on Monday morning.”

V’landys paid tribute to the Warriors players, staff and their families for the sacrifices they had made.

“As a game we cannot thank the Warriors enough for everything they are doing. Right from the start of this pandemic the club and its players have put the competition first and for that we will be forever thankful.”

Do we know exactly who is going? The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting "36 foreign nationals will arrive at Tamworth on a chartered flight on Sunday afternoon", I assume that covers all the players, coaches, trainers, management, etc. Just wondering if anyone has been left out due to injury or any other reason.

Edit: Stuff is reporting "a group of 50 players and staff to depart for the NSW city of Tamworth on Sunday" - I wonder which is right?

The report I read mentioned that they had to find a smaller plane that the runway at Tamworth could cope with. Maybe that’s the difference in the 2 numbers reported. If that’s the case, I would think players, coaches, trainers etc, would travel on Sunday, and other support staff might follow later when able?

“All of which will be put to good use now the Warriors have tracked down a plane that won't bust Tamworth airport's runway.

"The aircraft that we had booked last week was too heavy for the runway," George revealed, just the latest logistic hurdle in a month chock full of them.

"So we had to change plans very quickly and we had to go to another aircraft size and shape, which meant we had to start sending gear over separately during the course of the week."

Would 14 of those "50" be Australian Citizens? That might answer the 'foreign national' thing. I reckon Kearney's an Oz Citizen as well as Kiwi. Why wouldn't he be? His future is in Qld (with family). He's certainly eligible.

Well done. Someone had the smarts to know the importance of this - if the Warriors got the green light, then everything else would fall into place.

I don't think it's a stretch to say that New Zealand has saved Rugby League in 2020.

Ah man, I thought it was going to be a year where I didn't face disappointment as a Warriors fan.

Can the club now tell us who is actually going over there? 50 people are mentioned, I'd assume 30 players and 20 staff?? Seems like alot of overheads.. I really hope they keep us informed while they are going through this mini pre season. I'll give them a few days to settle.

I'm assuming the Reserve grades are cancelled, it's gonna be tough for guys to force their way into a team when all they can do is hold tackle bags all season... Which knowing SK, is what half the squad will be doing.

Let the ass kicking commence!

Big LOL. Used that twice in this forum in 2 days, haven't used for years!

I know it's going to end in disappointment but I am fired up as hell. I haven't watched general round robin games for 2-3 years but that'll likely change. Bring it on.

Is the updated draw out?

Some media organisation said 36, surely that can’t be 30 players and 6 offsiders.
Is Cameron George heading over?

36 foreign nationals plus 14 Australian citizens would equal 50, assuming theres 14 Aussies (including dual citizens like SK) in the Warriors org that would check out.

Is Roache anywhere near playing? I would have guessed he was still a few months away at least

No biggie with Roache I reckon, likely just a cold. I’d say they’ll fly him and Fus over on a week or two. I’m more heartened by the news that he was scheduled to be travelling at all.

I didn't agree with the principle from a health stand point tbh.

Now it's happening the old faithful gene is sputtering back to life.

Will be glued to every call, every play, every brain fart.

Here we go....the beat goes on la de da de da

How many chartered flights can we/nrl afford though? I was under the assumption the next flight would be in a few months time to bring family over, hence us taking like 30 players in one go
