The Vodafone Warriors’ impressive ISP side will be looking to bounce back from last week’s narrow loss to the Penrith Panthers when they square off this Saturday against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in Sydney.

Utility back Sam Cook will once again join Mason Lino in the halves while Matt Allwood has also been named by coach Ricky Henry to return to action after a lengthy stint on the sidelines with a rib injury.

Talented under-20s player Joseph Vuna will also get his first chance to impress at the ISP level after being included on the bench.

The Vodafone Warriors’ ISP team will head into their clash with the Bulldogs sitting second on the ladder with three losses while their rivals sit three places below them.

In other team news, Vodafone Junior Warriors coach Grant Pocklington has understandably opted for a similar line up to the one that trounced the Bulldogs 36-6 at Mt Smart Stadium last Friday night.

In the only change to the starting side, Tyler Slade comes in to the second row in place of Vuna.

The NYC team will be hunting a third consecutive win for the first time this season when they take on the seventh placed Manly Sea Eagles in Perth.

Hes been having back problems after he ran into the goal post a month or so ago. Warriors rate him highly as hes now on a fulltime contract

Went along and watched yesterday. Last minute loss hurts. Sipley Bros were on another planet. Heres my write up guys

This week the Fan In The Stand packed up the family and headed West as the boys were taking on Bulldogs Reserve Grade side out at Belmore Sports Ground. The boys have had a tough couple of months with our last win back in Round 12. We really need the 2 points to stay in the hunt for the Minor Premiership with the Wyong Roos (Roosters Reserve Grade) 8 points clear of us at the top of the Table. Also with the 1st grade team going well lately Warriors fans dont seem so salty anymore so the vibe around the whole club in general seems positive.

So i get to the ground and park out on the street, those that have been here know that the ground is pretty cool but you play Russian Roulette parking your car out on the road, and you know you must be doing something right when your car is still there when the game is over. No car parking available if your not a member. We walk in and there are quiet a few fans around the place which i find out that is a fan day for them. Excellent, more of an atmosphere for the game but the lady at the gate says there are no more programs, dear oh dear. You know its a fan day but dont have enough programs for the patrons. But on the positive i peek through the fence and see my car still there.

I listen again the to ground announcer butcher the boys surnames. How hard is it to get a Kiwi or Pacific Islander in the box to pronounce the boys names. Couple of changes to our team with Our leader Mason Lino on duty with the 1st grade team in Perth. Big Loss!!! So Jazz starts at halfback. Ofa Ogden hasnt travelled with the team so Big King Vuniyayawa gets a start in the 2nd row, in terms of size we dont lose to much there. Also Daniel Palavi gets the start with Tof Sipley going back to the bench. Nice having both the Sipley Bash Brothers coming of the bench. Great to see Matty Allwood and Zac Santo back from injury in the team as the loss of Mase leaves the boys a bit light in experiance. I look at the Dogs team and see former Warrior Brad Abbey at fullback for them, always wish former Warriors players well when they end up playing at other clubs but as always since he has on a opposition jumper i hope we smash, barge and tear him a new you know what. But im still concerned about the hole Mason leaves. On the other hand great to see Mr Consistant James Bell assume the captaincy for this game. Not the biggest guy to play footy but probably has the biggest heart.

The Warriors kick off and seem to eager as on tackle 2 we are penalised for being off side. Dogs kick for touch and 4 tackles later ease over for a try which is converted and we are down 6-0 after 3 minutes. WTF!!! This is dejavu from the Manly game 2 weeks ago. Exactly the same start. We settle down in the next set and force an error. Perfect result for the set after we have just been scored on. We make easy metres and Tevita Satae barges over but gets held up, then on the last Sam Cooks chip goes dead for a Dogs 7 tackle set. Again we are penalised on defence for a strip but hold out on defence. It seems the boys have brushed that bad start and i can hear the communication in defence especially from fullback Santo. 2 sets later Jazz the makeshift 7 makes a good hitup earning good metres, Cherrington is darting around dummyhalf nicely and Santo kicks pinning the Dogs deep into the corners. Next set Dogs kick to our winger Junior Pauga who makes a 30m line break and gets the set rolling nicely. But on the last Cherringtons kick goes dead and Dogs get another 7 tackle set. We are strong defencively and the Dogs dont make more that 40 metres so we have a set and again Jazz with a nice hitup and offload makes good metres and we are on attack. With a backline spread Matt Allwood drops it with defenders allover him. Then we are penalised for being offside on tackle 3. Dogs attack and their prop Renouf Toomaga pokes his nose through and goes for the try but 5 defenders hold him up. Great desperation by the lads.

We receive a penalty a couple of sets later and get on attack fairly easy but knock on again 10m out, this time James Bell but he was very unlucky as i thought he kept possesion. We trade set for set with no errors or penalties but then Daniel Palavi makes a great run getting 16m but 2 tackles later we make an error. We continue to hold on defencivley as the Dogs dont seem to be throwing much at us. We force an error in their 20 so a good chance to run some moves, Bell with a great run gets tackled 1m out and we get a penalty after the Dogs slowing shit down. We run a few plays and the Dogs hustle and make their tackles. On the last we grubber and the cleanup. Our next set in possesion we easily make yardage up the middle and again Dogs penalised. We kick for touch and split the field for some set moves. Backline move to the right sees Captain bell weave and jink then offload in traffic to Papalii who was backing up well to crash over for the try. Great offload and 2nd phase play by the right edge players. With Mase out Junior Pauga is kicking and he converts to tie it up 6-6.

Pat Sipley has made his first appearance for the day and on tackle 2 bulldozes up a 15m hitup. On the last Jazz chips on a low% play and Dogs get possession. 2 tackles later Sam Cook gets penalised for a spear tackle and gets put on report. Doesnt look good and if he has carryover points id say 2 weeks. Looked nasty. Dogs attack and we defend well but Dogs penalised for a sheppard. No thrills set by us and Cook puts in a great 5th play kick which ends up 1m out from Dogs line. They only make 30 odd metres and kick and Junior Pauga breaks 3 tackles on the kick return. Tackle 2 Pat Sipley runs 20m dragging Dogs defenders left right and centre and left and right again. Tackle 3 sees Toafofoa Sipley whos just finished running on from the interchange bench catch the ball and barge over for a beastmode try hahahaha. These Sipley Bros are unreal. Junior converts 12-6 6 to go. Next set Pat Sipley again a monster hitup with a 15m carry. Dogs defenders just cant stop him. We again kick to the corners making it tough for the Dogs to grind out. Then the Dogs prop Lachlan Lee get hammered and smashed by both the Sipleys in a tackle. Rocket hit. Our next set we ease up field and again our last kick juuuuuust goes dead and the Dogs get another 7 tackle set. Tackle 3 Tof Sipley rocks another Dog with a mass hit. With 2 minutes left we get a penalty. Isaiah Papalii makes a break beating 3 then 2 tackles later a backline move sees Captain Bell fake and go himself and dive over among 2 tacklers . Excellent try but Junior misses the kick as the halftime hooter goes. We are up 16-6.

Halftime Thoughts

* I wonder if my car is still out on the street or up on blocks

* Our forwards are in total control. The starting front row of Palavi and Satae set a platform and then the Sipleys have bashed it to another level. We are making easy metres through the ruck

* Cant hear Vera May in the stands. Possibly not here. Hopefully she is ok. But catch up with Blair who like the Fan In The Stand enjoys the Warriors Reserve Grade Games.

* With it being Fan Day here im sitting in front of the Bulldogs 1st grade team and its funny listening to them talk about the bunker and Parramatta among other things. They are also doing a good job in trying to put Junior off as he goal kicks. Jeering at him as he approaches the ball.

* I see the Mad Butcher here talking to everyone. Good to see him out here supporting the reserve grade guys. The funny story about why he is in Sydney is becos he booked his tickets for him and his wife to watch 1st grade play Manly at Brookvale forgetting that they were playing in Perth lol. So he came to this game instead. Good man Butch.

Players to impress

* Captain Bell. He is leading from the front. Massive workrate
* Cherrington looking the goods
* Papalii very busy
* Cook looking to control things nicely
* Junior Pauga having a great game on the wing
* Sipley Brothers. Enough said

Even though we have Ruck dominance i still think we are missing Mason. About 4 times the Dogs have had 7 tackle restarts. Still confident that the boys will go on with the job

2nd half starts with us recieving the ball. Nothing special set. Then on the Dogs first set they march up field and get a penalty then a miss tackle sees them dive over for a try straight away. De Ja Vu from the 1st half. Dogs convert 16-12 still to us. We kick off and on tackle 2 a great tackle by King forces an error and we back on attack. A loose pass is picked up by the Dogs who scoot away upfield but ref gives us a penalty for Dogs holding one of our players back. 3 plays later Big Tof barges over but is held up by 3 dogs players. We kick on the last but Dogs get possession. 2 sets later Tevita Satae makes a great break and offloads to Tof who gets tackled from behind and he stays down. Ref stops play as he gets his ankle treated. Losing him would be deadly. He plays on after about 3 rolls of tape are applied. 2 tackles later Cook chips on the last and Junior Pauga regathers and runs away and draws the fullback who passes it to Santo who motors away to score. Great try started in our own half. Junior misses the kick 20-12 to us with 23 to go. Just noticed in the background Tof still hobbling around and Satae has gone down injured as well, looks like his knee. Play restarts but both are limping.

As the Dogs start to get a roll on Tof is penalised for slowing down the ruck. Good penalty in hindsight as he is struggling on the field. Proceeding set sees the Dogs make sum breaks and Abbey makes a break but Jazz holds him up with a try saver. 2 plays later they grubber on the last and Allwood bats a grubber dead. Another try saver. Next set Santo saves another certain try with a classic round the legs tackle. We are holding on just. But as i write that in my notes 2 tackles later the Dogs put on a backline move and spread it wide and they score in the corner. I suppose it was coming with all the defence and try savers we are making. Conversion missed and we are still up 20-16 with 16 to go. We have no momentum with Dogs having all the play. 2 sets later the Dogs start looking sharp again but they get called for a forward as they make another break. We need to keep calm and get some decent possession.

With our first set in a while we finally taking our time and giving our defenders time to rest as the outside backs take all the hitups. The Dogs next set we hold them to not many metres but Jazz is penalised on the last tackle for a ruck infringment. AAARRGGGHHHH Coach killer. More pressure coming up and we hold them out but they force a goal line drop out. More defence and more Dogs momentum coming up. We need a game changer play. We again are under the pump but we force an error through some gang tackling. Finally we have some possesson but the boys looked gassed. We get a penalty for a high tackle more chance to rest the lungs. Reinforcements come on in the form of Pat Sipley who immediatley stamps his authority by producing a 15m hitup dragging 2 Dogs along. But later in the set our ill dicipline arises again and we are penalised while in possession.

Dogs attack again as the crowd really starts getting behind them and they have a 2 on 1 but King Vuniyayawa is penalised for a strip. Good penalty as the guy was trying to offload and if he had of it was certain try. Also gives our defence line time to regroup and set. We hold out and our other winger Latu defuses the bomb and we outta trouble. With the the Sipley Bros take tackles 2 and 3 with 30m combined. We get a good kick away and are out of our half finally. With 2 minutes to go Dogs 5/8 makes a line break from some tired tacklers and runs away to score SHIIIIIITTTTTTTTT!!!! 20-20. He kicks the kick with 30 seconds left. We rush for a short kick off but we cant hold it and it goes out. An thats the game. The players are numb. Im numb. This is unreal. ANother loss in the last minute. 2 weeks in a row. WOW Just WOW

The Dogs 1st grade team are now yelling out and being pretty obnoxious after that last try yet pretty quiet all game. I turn around to see who it is and its 2 players that dont play much. Typical. Think u all that but really you aint achieved jack in the game, yet Josh Jackson and The Morris Brothers are not yelling anything just watching and enjoying the game.

Im gutted at the loss. What we did right in the first half we seemed to go away from that in the 2nd and we lost our ruck dominance. Looking back we did miss Mason. His calmness proabably sees us win 13 plus but it is what it is

My Man of the Match is a tough one this week. James Bell was monstrous in the first half but these 2 changed the game when they came on so for me

3 Pat Sipley - Beastmode and yards for days
2 Toafofoa Sipley - see reasons above
1 James Bell - Stood up with the C next to his name.

Honerable mention Junior Pauga. Excellent game on the wing, heaps of tackle busts.

Manaia, Cook, Papalii all contained well in the 2nd half. As was Allwood and Santo

Again I love coming out watching this team. As mentioned in nearly all my reports they have an excellent attitude and great character. Plus they play good footy. So as i pack my stuff im looking around for my 7 year old Son. Like i did when i was little he brings his footy to the games then finds some kids his age and away he goes and they play their little footy games on the hill. This time he was with Manaia Cherringtons Whanaus kids. We left home with him in clean clothes and looking sharp. I find him after the games grass stains all down his pants with a ripped hoodie GRRRRR. So there were a small sprinkle of Warrior fans there. So we walk out talking about our usual post game trip to KFC hoping the car is still there. All the while im thinking what more do these Sipley brothers have to do to get some 1st grade game time. No game for the Boys next week as its bye week again. Good for those niggling injuries to get a rest but in 2 weeks they take on the Dragons at Mt Smart at 1pm on 15 July. Its a Saturday so please peeps get along and give the boys sume support. We make it out the gates and PHEW the car is still there. Amen. So we jump on to race home to watch the main game on TV. Nope not the ABs Lions test but 1st grade Warriors v Manly from Perf

A very relieved Fan In The Stand next to his car in the streets of Belmore OUT!!!!

Just a side note as ive finished this report the 1st grade team has gone down to Manly 26-22. But there have been sum injuries. Hoff is facing 5 weeks with a broken Foot. Big Albie Vete looking at 7 weeks with a broken arm and Nate Roache possible 6 weeks with a hamstring injury. Add on Bullys shoulder injury and there are some spots available in 1st grade. First of all we all wish them a speedy recovery but more importantly NOW IS THE TIME THE SIPLEYS GET A RUN IN FIRST GRADE. They should of been there months ago based on form but with the injuries mentioned above surely their opportunity must come. Cmon Coach Kearney they are Ready and will not let anyone down. Any other club and they would have played 6 or more games each in 1st grade by now. Enjoy the bye week peeps

I didnt post this on my page but after the game i saw the Sipleys Dad so went over and said hi. Said to him most Warriors fans are gutted that Toafofoa is leaving. He said he was suprised that Tof was leaving but also said Tof is excited about next year especially since Pat had a good stint at Manly in the juniors.

I said that both should of been playing 1st grade months ago and he said he has no idea why they are not getting picked.
Nice guy

New Vodafone Warriors recruit Bureta Faraimo will make his debut for the club in Saturday’s Intrust Super Premiership clash against the Illawarra Steelers at Mt Smart Stadium.

The 26-year-old outside back, who has starred for Wentworthville this year, linked up with the Vodafone Warriors last week.

The former Parramatta Eel has been named on the wing for Ricky Henry’s Vodafone Warriors ISP team and will be looking to continue his recent try-scoring exploits for his new club.

Wellington-born Faraimo will head into this weekend’s ISP game as the competition’s equal leading try-scoring, having crossed the line 14 times for Wentworthville this season.

Steady playmaker Mason Lino, meanwhile, is expected to make a return for the ISP team where he’s been named in the halves.

Lino was required in Perth as injury cover for the first-grade team two weeks ago and ended up being named 18th man.

He will be a welcome addition to the ISP team this weekend, who, fresh from last week’s bye, will be looking to return to the winners’ circle after falling in the final seconds to the Canterbury Bulldogs at Belmore in round 17.

This weekend’s ISP game kicks off at Mt Smart Stadium on Saturday, July 15 at 1pm. Gates open at 12:45pm.

There is free entry through Gate B for any fans wishing to attend, while free parking is also available in the main Mt Smart Stadium carpark through the O’Rorke Rd entrance.

In the under-20s competition, Joe Vuna has been named to make his return for the Vodafone Junior Warriors on Friday night against the Penrith Panthers.

A fortnight ago, Vuna made his ISP debut against the Bulldogs but will return to action for the Vodafone Junior Warriors this week.

Like the ISP team, the under-20s will be looking for a change in fortunes on Friday night after a tough loss to Manly in Sydney in round 17.

The Panthers won’t be an easy team to handle, however, with the visitors heading to New Zealand in third place on the competition ladder with 26 points.

The Vodafone Junior Warriors game gets underway at the temporarily renamed “Manu Vatuvei Stadium” on Friday night at 5:45pm before the first-grade game at 8pm.

Boys got up to win 28-14 over St George.

Probably did in for Manu, and played with a bit of heart and intensity in the process.

This is the sh*t!

Can't wait to go to Newtown next week.

I would love to get along to some of the reserves games, but opportunities in Melbourne are few and far between. These guys seem to be playing as a team this year. Whatever it is they have working for them, hopefully it starts to filter up to the top side over the next year or so. Personally i think we are going to benefit from this side much more than we ever did when the focus was on the Under 20's.

Everything we rage about in first grade isn't there in our reserves. It's quite amazing really. They just have ridgy-didge Kiwi coach too, who didn't even get far in first grade himself.

There's four or five current reggies who should be established in first grade now. The Sipley's obviously. Patrick isn't even that young anymore, he's 25. If developed properly they could both be a Martin Taupau in regard to physical presence on a football field. Taupau's lucky, cause he's sort of an Aussie, he was always going places.

Ogden's another one we need to keep, but is that good for him?

With regular captain Mason Lino called up for NRL duty, loose forward James Bell will lead the Vodafone Warriors in their 20th-round Intrust Super Premiership clash against Newtown at Henson Park on Saturday (3.00pm kick-off local time, 5.00pm NZT).

Bell was typically energetic in his side’s vital 28-14 win over Illawarra last week, a victory which ended a run of four matches without success.

He made 115 metres from 15 runs plus 34 tackles as the second-placed Vodafone Warriors set about firming up their campaign.

Prop Chris Satae (151 metres) and second rower Ofahiki Ogden (108) also topped 100 metres among the forwards while centre Junior Pauga, who grabbed two tries to lift his tally to 12, clocked up 303 metres. New recruits Zac Santo (133) and Bureta Faraimo (120) also gained plenty of ground.

The Vodafone Warriors will run into a desperate Newtown side sitting 10th and needing victory to have a chance of staying alive in the hunt for a spot in the finals.

Meanwhile, the Vodafone Junior Warriors will use Israel Ogden at fullback against North Queensland in Townsville on Saturday.
