Warriors recruitment policy.

I have been concerned of late that the only signings have been players of Kiwi heritage.
So I decided to email Jim Doyle to ask him if was an official Warriors policy.
I sent the email yesterday and didn't expect a reply in a hurry, sure he would have a slew of more important things to do after the weekend. But, to his credit, he replied yesterday.
Here is his reply:

Hi Rich

Yes hard week indeed

Our recruitment policy is to attract the best possible players whether they are Kiwis, Aussies, etc

It is generally easier to attract Kiwis to “come back home” than to get Aussies to leave home but we are certainly targeting both

Regards

Jim

If the players and coaching staff worked as hard as Jim you would think this club has to be successful.
And I am glad we haven't given up on recruiting Australians. Hard or not.

Good to know, wish we would just announce some signings & re-signings, if Pulu has been signed announce it, if Gavet is re-signed announce it. Look at the Tigers, they may have lost Woods & Tedesco, but they have been very since active signing Matulino, Packer & Reynolds amongst others. We need some positive news.

Foran, Luke and RTS etc...Doyles doing well.

I like how Doyle sat next to Foran on the sidelines when Kieran pulled a hamstring in the warm up of what was supposed to be his return match. Its good leadership that all of the clubs stakeholders can respect.

Do you have frequent contact with Doyle?
If not that is amazing to get back to you.
He must have a lot of shit emails to get through in general without answering "fan" mail.

He is right on the money it being easier to get Kiwis to go home vs an Aussie moving there.
The every other weekend away, travel, timezone, let alone what they would miss in family & friend events, media opportunities, NZ weather etc, vs moving to Melbourne, Gold Coast even North Queensland.
Let alone the stigma the Warriors now have.
Need a few years of playing finals football to wipe that clean.

Sydney clubs have it easy.

I like Jim, solid man. I just don't believe being a CEO of a football club is his calling.

I also don't believe for a second that we are solely going after NZ players. We haven't made the finals since 2011, decent Australian talent doesn't want a bar of us. Hell, even the property market now doesn't help us. The reason, to me, it seems like we're going after NZ players is only they are going any interest. Nothing's possibly going far enough down the track with other potentials.

We'd want J.Graham, Chambers etc but none of those big names can justify crossing the Tasman. I'm not sure there's enough money in the world at the moment to play under an unproven coach in a consistently failing club.

When players sign, resign or announce they are leaving all members get an email first, 2nd the sponcers and last the media

Great of Jim to respond so directly. And pleased to know that tge situation is pretty much exactly as I stated last week re the club not specifically targetting kiwis but tending to get them due to Australian players general reluctance to move here.
