It's not uneconomical cos it's the only way to improve a long-term weakness in the team. It's about supply and demand. We sorely demand a decent defensive centre who offers more than Mannering in attack too. Henry's been ok, but doesn't quite read the play like a smart, experienced specialist centre would.

By the way, I saw an interview with Ropati a while ago, and he said that being injured, he's involved in defensive coaching. He was talking himself up big time regarding his understanding of that aspect of the game. Shudders.

Thing is, we already have a very good defensive center in Henry, and he's taken to defending in that position better and faster than anyone iv'e
ever seen, in just his 12th game of first grade, and 12th game at center for that matter, he's the equal of Neilson, and will only get
better.

We went ok with Mannering in the centres too, but having backrowers in the centres is not ideal, either defensively or especially in attack. Henry's decision making shows he's no polished centre, he has butchered tries this season by not even knowing how to draw and pass to his winger. Doesn't have much speed either but is strong as an ox.

I admire your passion for a local-bred player but on no planet is Henry the equal of Nielsen.

End of the day, it might be uneconomical to pay overs for players over here but the playing field is not equal. We cannot hope to follow the same pay structures as Sydney-based clubs, or the Broncos etc. If we are operating under the cap, keeping promising juniors and having to pay slightly over market value for Aussie talent to plug our gaps (and yes, centre is unquestionably one of those) then there is no issue.

I'm in between the 'he's an average player' and the 'what an unbelievable signing' groups but he's a pretty decent player and I know that I would rather him at left centre than Ben Henry or Jerome Ropati thats for sure.
