Another big weekend for anyone not going to the ground (Fox1):

  • 1:00pm: Dragons vs Warriors (Holden Cup - U20's)
  • 3:00pm: Cutters vs Warriors (NSW Cup)
  • 5:30pm: Dragons v Warriors (1st Grade)

Shame we are going in off a loss like yesterdays... but a great opportunity to see blokes like Williams, Quinlan, Stanley perhaps as a 5/8, Garvey if hes back, Runciman, Mata'utai if hes not in 1st grade, Bird and so on and so on.. lots of young faces hopefully getting runs in their preferred positions.

I think this game should be made as an ultimatum to all dragons fans who can make the game to go and support the boys especially after coming off a controversial loss. We should show them how proud we are of the effort they put in and let them know we care and hurt just as much as them. My 2 cents worth.

It's a pretty good looking NSW Cup side! Looking forward to watching all 3 grades! The boys would lift with a big show of support. I'll be at the Anzac game!

I like that NSW Cup is right before first grade, good to watch how Stanley, Quinlan, Williams, Garvey etc play

Some quick thoughts from lower grades today:

Holden Cup (U20's):
o Almost nothing positive to come out of this game, we went behind early and at no point were we ever in it.. we were thoroughly outplayed
o Some positives were the 2 Centres who both had strong games
o Be really interesting to see how Hornby/Deano go when things arent going their way

NSW Cup (Cutters):
o We fielded an extremely competitive side, we have so many depth signings.. but the Warriors did too, blokes like Kevin Locke at the back...
o It was a carbon copy of the U2-'s game early, we were in it but the Warriors just kept putting points on.. before we knew it.. it was 24-0 iirc, and it was a late fightback that actually nearly snatched it.

Heaps of blokes to point out:

__o Kyle @6: It really is his position (im pleased he didnt get roped into 1st grade centre to cover Farrell).. Kyle actually looks like he belongs.. but.. i feel like he has just lost too much speed to ever be a superstar, he would have been lethal pre-injury.. and he needs heaps of practice.. like 12mths+ in that position to develop his skills.. but its not beyond him if he really wants it. His goalkicking is supreme too, hes not just shooting and praying, the ball seems to move in slow-motion with spin on it, following the ideal trajectory.. its fascinating.. the only one he missed hit the upright (from the sideline).
__o Williams @7: Pretty solid, hes not a bad kid, not a superstar but competent as he was in 1st grade
__o Garvey @14: Played off the bench, was a livewire hooker, thank god hes back, surely will start next week
__o Mata'utai: Played Right Centre, wasnt his best game but still a potent attacking threat, unbelievable imo he didnt get the 1st grade spot over Green
__o Quinlan: Played Fullback, devastating with every touch.. class above as usual
__o Runciman: Left Centre, solid, has some classy touches when the ball comes his way, really pleased he is developing still, Cutters prob the right place for now.

NSW Cup
Pretty much spot on Rev. Quinlan looked dangerous with every touch, Williams was pretty solid and laid on a beautiful ball to Quinlan who caught it magically with 1 hand to send someone over for a try. Kyle looked natural at 5/8 and I'm sure he'll improve every week. Mata'Utia looked dangerous but he got beat cold by his opposite numer twice which was a worry. Runciman was solid as well and a shame that pass got called back from Williams as he hit that hole really well and probably wouldve scored. OBrien is a big boy and he should make the cut when he matures and gets fitter. Garvey is very quick off the mark and I like how he plays. IMO if Rein has an injury he is an automatic selection. Ailaomai was solid but a lil suspect laterally in defence, he would get caught out in NRL but if he works on his speed and fitness he could get there. Forget Groat completely, he moves like a slug and has no power, there is zero chance of him playing FG, he's very lucky to be playing in NSW cup, laterally he is a disaster in defence. Mataka looked like a future prospect

Holden Cup
Very very disappointing. Euan Aitken scored 3 tries when he had no right to score at all but did so by pure strenght and determination. Competes very hard against much bigger men. Dufty is a star of the future with blinding pace! Klune played pretty well at 7 and Hutchinson showed some nice glimpes at 5/8. A few of the forwards were powerful but didn't play as a unit. Our defensive structure was terrible and ineffective and they rolled over the top of us with a lot of offloads as well.

NRL
Dugan is a freak! Still needs to learn to pass before the line or just after a line break rather than pass at the death when he cant go any further. Would still like to see him come from outside in and straighten the attack when sweeping around the back as he runs his outside men out of room. I can see him making line breaks coming from outside in directly off Widdop with Witt fading behind him so Widdop has choices. Rein had a great game as did Merrin, Cooper, Dugan, Widdop while everyone else was pretty sound
