Was Walters really better than Elias?

In the annals of history, Steve Walters had been judged a better hooker than Ben Elias. I think Benny was well and truly robbed on the selection table. Benny was a more than competent defender as well as the best attacking hooker of all time.
Who agrees with me?

Boxhead was the next best dummy half I've seen after Cam Smith, he was more effective running the ball than Elias

Walters shat on Elias from a great height.

Elias for mine. Elias was robbed. Wasn't given an Australian jersey after he dominated origin, the year he bled and his mother embraced him after an origin win. Selectors said something along the lines of Elias getting on and looking at younger players.

The following year I think the axe makes his debut for Australia at 32 years of age.

Typical BS from selectors and hardly surprising.

It astounds me that Walters is considered some sort of legend. He was a decent player but nothing special. 2 Clubs don't usually get rid of all time legends.

Elias out played him at origin on nearly every occasion. Unfortunately the fact that so many people hated him has clouded how good a player he actually was.

Good summation.

Gillmeister only played tests because of Super League.

Yeah but he was absolutely robbed in '87 when they picked Brian Niebling ahead of him. Brian Niebling FFS.

But to the main question, great players both, but Elias for mine. Pure footballer in every sense. My type of player. Walters was quick and extremely powerful. But backdoor benny for mine.
