I'll probably get shot to bits for this, but I wonder how highly benny Elias would of rated had his name been Steve Clark or the like. Was a pure footballing hooker, that never received the accololades he deserved. Not sure why he didn't.

Jus sayin.....

It astounds me that Walters is considered some sort of legend. He was a decent player but nothing special. 2 Clubs don't usually get rid of all time legends.

Elias out played him at origin on nearly every occasion. Unfortunately the fact that so many people hated him has clouded how good a player he actually was.

Laughable.

Look, he is not the nicest bloke in rugby league. But, my goodness the man could play.Benny had every attacking trick in the book...the only thing Walters could do better was defend...that is not saying Benny was bad in defence either, just Walters was better in that area.
I thought boxhead was average in attack.

Walters had a better passing game, running game, far far better. Better defender, more consistent.

Those things I just listed are core skills for a great dummy half.

When we look back at 'legends of all time' u can say they changed the way the game was played.

TBH I don't recall Walters beyond origin games but Benny certainly falls into that category when u look back at the evolution of the attacking hooker.

Love him or hate him he was one hell of a player.

Backdoors greatest achievement was hitting a goal post.

Cracking commentator though. They should bring him back.

Both were quality players.

The spine needs balance.

Depends on the halves they may have.

If your are Steve you leave direction to Ricky and run when you can.

If you are Benny you direct and get the halves running, run and kick when you can.

Both great players.

I always considered Walters solid but a bit overrated and Elias talented but prone to brain explosions and over playing his hand. Basically their version of Smith and Farah. Can't think anyone can really split Elias and Walters without some sort of confirmation bias involved.

Was Lewis really better than Kenny?

Do not underestimate the power of the Queensland hysteria/hype/delusion/propaganda machine.

It even managed to convince people that Wally is worthy of Immortal status. Hero worship is hell of a thing.
