Wasted potential in former players

Mick Weymen..when on the field he will almost always charge over the defense with every run, i personally think he will never reach his potential due to injuries.

I've watched him play in Prem League even after coming back from a few injuries - I think it was against the Sharkies in 2004 at Canberra Stadium. He was superb, the only player on the field that really looked hungry and aggressive and just steamrolled his way over the advantage line every time he ran the ball up.

the 2 obvious one's for me are James Matthews and Ben Alexander
who both died young and tragically in 1992
also Adam Ritson and John Farragher who had there careers cut short
othrs who never kicked on
Paul Hauff
Leo Dynevor
Michael Brown
Jamie Oljenik
David Seidenkamp
Royston Lightning
Ray Mercy
Shayne Stead
Paul Quinn
Tasesa Lavea
Cameron Blair
Joel Wilson
Jacin Sinclair
and those who had bad runs with injuries
David Woods

Mate if he plays more than 50 consecutive games without injury he will be in NSW and maybe if he is lucky Kangaroo tour teams, the man is a f**king animal, best prop potential i think ive ever witnessed. But like SBW appears to either be made of glass or just has disgraceful luck atm

And unlike other potential at canberra, he has proven he can complete, kill it and step up to the NRL level

Mundine-if he wasn't such a supreme wanker he would've been a supreme player to everyone's eyes not just his own

as much as it kills me to say it , he was the best 5/8 in the game in 99....

I would have to say Kevie McGuniness. This bloke could killed it at the tigers. He got mixed up with Craig Feild. Then went to many where he didnt quite meet expectations, and is now playing in the ESL

Matt Rua - Was such a great prospect, had played for the Kiwis and won a Grand Final with Melbourne and then just threw it all away and fell off the face of the earth. I think he's now involved with coaching in NZ but what a wasted talent.

Dane Carlaw - He's big and fast and can do anything on the football field when he puts his mind to it but has been dreadful in the last 18 months or so. The Broncos had such a great bunch of young forwards that emerged in 2000 and now 5 years down the track none have really pushed on. Meyers is now in England after a terrible 2 years, Harrison left but is now finally going well for the Bunnies and Webb has only just recovered his career after nearly blowing it by producing nothing for 2 seasons.

I actually rated Rua, he was a good solid player played for Kiwis in 1999-2000. I think he retired, he wouldve played for the Raiders in 2002, but didnt play. Parramatta tried to talk him out of retirement a year later but didnt want to play.

It sounds abit funny but I would say Ken Nagas. He played for Canberra, NSW and Australia but he was cruelled with injury in his prime. He would of gone down as one of the legends ala Grothe on the wing IMO.

He is still considered a great player but he could of been so much more.

Ewan McGrady for me. Didn't he play in the same team as a kid called Luke Goodwin? I recall he was either really good or really bad, hence his nickname Luke-warm.

There was a player the Raiders bought off Parra in the late 90's called Nathan Barnes. He showed nothing down here but apparently he was a real prospect at the eels.

The Raiders also had Brett Hetherington. He was a really good Prop/2nd rower. Left Canberra for the cowboys and dropped off the face of the earth.

Broncodroid, Canberra sold Royston Lightning to St George, then he piled on the pounds.

Barnes came to Canberra late in his career. I think he was about 30 or something. He showed promise but wasnt anything sensational at Parramatta. I think he played for Penrith and Newcastle before then.

You telling me he didn't put on some added (unwanted pounds) Canberra? Give me a break. He was useless barring a couple of glimpses of his potential.

Not at all, he was a little chunky at the Raiders. I was just informing you where he went, not many people know.

My bad, came across a little strong....No, not many would be aware of that fact.

I have 3 games of that Erindale team on tape at home (caught onto the hype Lightning was getting) and he was awesome as a kid...a "man among boys" I think one commentator puts in one of the games.

I was hoping he would kick on in the NRL.

Yep Godwin played fullback for the Dogs, think he was my favourite player of the time, buggered if I know what happened to him I was only a kid. Wasn't he the son of a famous Godwin ? I seem to recall he has shoes to fill....

What ever happened to Tasesa Lavea? Former Rookie of the year in 1999, since dissapeared when the Northern Eagles folded.
