What the deal with Wayne 'the BFG' Bennett?
Everyone raves about how good this bloke is. Built a successful club from the ground up, Australian and QLD coach, wow what a great coach!
Fact be told, the BFG has ALWAYS has prime cattle to work with. He has first dibs on the best players in QLD for f*ck sake, what coach who has that benefit is not going to get his teams to the finals?
My question is why cant he take them further?
If a coach like Peter Sharp, or Chris Anderson had such a wide spread to chose from, i bet they would still be in a job now.
I wonder how the BFG would go if he had Manly budget 4 years ago? Not bloody good.
Players like Leon Bott, Karmichael Hunt are just dropped at his feet, he does nothing, just picks players like Paul Green, Ben Ikin and Darren Smith out of retirement to play instead of other young juniors who could impress! Must be real inspiring for your coach to overlook you like that.
He benefits from the one team one town situation in which players can be signed for less than market value because they will recoup that earnings through endorsements, another benefit for his reign.
If he is such a great coach, why could not he get the best out of Carl Webb? something Graham Murray seems to be able to do. Why did he buy Stuart Kelly? Where is he now? Good purchase BFG!
He let Ashley Harrison go while he retained plonkers like Dane Carlaw and that other red nuffy who has gone to England.
The QLD media make him sound like a god! You expect as much though from a state that voted in Sir Joh.
Ross Livermore must be the must geniused exec in the game, his support would mean nothing to me! But when ever the BFG says something, good old Rossy is there wiping his arse and endorsing his beloved surrogate sons opinion.
He is too precious to talk to the media because they may have an opinion that contrasts with him, wake up BFG, get a thicker skin. he has been insultated too long by all his QLD board cronies!
Truth be told QLD'ers are a backward lot, us southerners should not be put of by there lack of intelligance and constant admiration for a man who has been fortunate enough to have everything layed out before him by an obedient patronage.
I cant wait for Gold Coast to come in and eat up some of the talent the Brisbane seem to hog. Also cant wait till the Broncos miss the semis again and the media blame a missing half back or hooker or fullback like they have in years gone past, not the average coach who seems to be made of teflon.
