Treating the media ...AND the fans, with contempt.
Mr Saab said:Yeah ratings figures and attendance were pathetic when Bennett was coach in his 3rd stint 2001-2003
Oh Gus, the man that left origin with the classic line of "I dont need this sh*t youse give me" at the press conference game three 2004.
Sorry not everyone can be like the "great" Gus.
Mr Saab said:He has done nothing wrong. You people act as though he is David Hicks. If you have nothing nice to say dont say anything at all...isnt that the old cliche?
Of yeah...who was the one that brought back Langer in 2001? Geeeeeez i recall the hype and media coverage that created back then. But yeah, Dally, Bennett does not promote the game.
Who was the one that had the final say in moving the 2004 semi to NQ.....geeeez.....that was a "flop" wasnt it.
Yeah bennett does f**k all for the game and is a waste of space.....you people are seriously farked in the head.
Mr Saab said:Gus promoted origin? What? By getting his mug on ch9 and talking it up.
Bennett has never liked the media...not in 1987...not in 2007.
So Gus won the series 2003 against Bennet...so what?
What rules of the comp dont apply to the Broncos?
dallymessenger said:if you don't like the media, don't be an nrl coach.
dallymessenger said:he didn't bring back afl for the good of RL. it was to save his neck.
time and again he thumbs his nose at the nrl.
other coaches treat the media with respect. bennett does nothing for the game that pays his wages.
good point about moving the game to NQ. so bennett isn't a total parasite, just half of one.
if he loses the arrogance and just answers the question put to him in a reasonable fashion, and attends NRL conferences when supposed to, then we can talk about the positives.
curious said:If it wasnt for Bennett, we wouldnt have the Tri-nations so how do you say he doesnt promote the game?
Mr Saab said:I just dont see the drama in what he did. You people act as though you are suprised at his behaviour...he has done that before many many times.
You want cliches....fine....stick in a tape of a Stuart Raper interview from 2006.
Mr Saab said:Alf might have been brought back to save QLD, but so what...that indirectly resulted in backpage front page of newspapers with his arrival.
And on origin....why does it need to be promoted? It is RL jewel in the crown. Other codes love our concept...esp AFL who are thinking about bringing it back for their code.
Ratings are always thru the roof...it is sold out in QLD months in advance....it really does not need promoting. Its not like it is A league soccer is it?
Did gould treat the media with respect? I say again...what about his press conference in 2004 when he gave it to the media who reported on the Blues behaviour (Mini, Gasnier, Mason).
curious said:Thats the stupidist thing i have ever heard
Mr Saab said:Dally promotes hmself as some "historian" on the game but basically knows SFA.
Good call on the tri nations.
Test football was basically on its last legs....2003 roo tour being case in point when 19 players pulled out for various reasons.
Now it is almost on par with origin...but yeah Bennett played no part in that.
Bennett...the man that treats the game with contempt....
dallymessenger said:yes gouldie lost the plot.
at least he talks to the media.
if you are putting gus in the same boat as bennett, you are lost.
dallymessenger said:bennett did play his part in getting test footy back to standard.
by not getting the most out of australia, NZ won the final, and that helped the sport enormously.
maybe they should get me to coach australia then by that standard.
Youre sounding like a broken record saab. Weve already been over this: Surprised...No.Mr Saab said:I just dont see the drama in what he did. You people act as though you are suprised at his behaviour...he has done that before many many times.

He loves to whoop it up with his brother after the game when interviewed after a win, but when he loses he takes his ball and goes home. He is not 14 yrs old...he should show more class than that.
Sure, he is competitive and hates to lose, but sometimes you learn more from a loss than a win.
Mr Saab said:And perhaps i could have coached the 1995 NSW team that lost to a team containing the likes of Terry Cook, Craig Teevan and Tony Hearn.
All coaches have their ups and downs.
