Why?
The Asian Champions League is already a done deal. It has nothing to do with what i was suggesting.
Why would you want to add a second team in Adelaide? In 20 years if every game is a guaranteed sellout, maybe but that isnt realistic. And if the game ever did grow to those levels, it is a fair bit that a promotion and relegation system would be developed anyway.
The only way the A league will grow is if people want to watch it. If the entire socceroos played there next year, there would be a massive effect on supporter interest. Because people at the moment are big fans of Kewell, Bresciano, Cahill, Viduka, Schwarzer etc. Even big Zjelko or Wilkshire would be a huge draw and people would line up to boo them in an A league game. Yet, before the Socceroos qualifiers, 90% of these signings would have had no effect on the public interest in the A league. The Asian cup will help enormously but again, there is the problem that not too many A league players will play in the main round. This wont help the A league.
The socceroos get 15000 to 90,000 whenever they play, no matter who is in their side. They are as big as the Cricket and Wallabies in terms of spectator, corporate and media interest. In fact, they are probably bigger than the Wallabies due to the fact that the Wallabies dont really have a large market outside NSW and Qld. If these two sports can be massive (financially and media wise) based on their poor international seasons (really there are no more than say 10, and i am being generours, decent international teams in those to sports), why couldnt soccer create their own international season like them. It would be far easier for the A league to retain Kewell, Viduka, Cahill etc through the socceroos than strictly through the A league club system. In fact, a full strenght Socceroos side (playing in a tournament like i proposed) is the only way, an australian side can compete with the large European clubs.
