Ugh, this is almost worse than him not playing at all. I'm guessing the 24 man squad is a tournament rule and they can't just increase it to 24? As much as I wanted him to play, its massively unfair to give someone else the boot just because this nob has only just now decided he wants to play for them. You should have pride and passion to play for NZ, not just treat it as something you can walk to or away from. I'm kind of leaning towards wanting the kiwis to tell him to piss off to be honest...

There are rules to allow for injuries and even if ASADA has their day in the sun and serves an infraction notice to players.
Wouldn't take to much for someone to fall on the sword and fail a medical.
Or SBW wants to see if he can get an exemption as he is above the rules.

Plain and simple he would be a draw card for people who may not otherwise watch the tournament and international league needs growth.

Pity if true the way he goes about it.

If he said no then changed his mind before the squad was out, fair enough, but to change his mind 1 day later after the squad is announced is a disgrace

There is no doubt he has gone about it poorly, probably orchestrated by his manager again. But I just don't understand how you would turn your back on supporting your national team because of one player. If he signed for Manly next season I presume that would be the end of your days supporting Manly then? Players come and go through teams that you support that you don't like, doesn't mean you just stop supporting the team/club, bit weak in my opinion. Each to their own though. I just don't try bring in off field stuff to much in to watching sport, especially in a sport riddled with off field problems.

I said I'd struggle to watch them, and that is the case. I didn't bother watching the Crusaders for a while and for the World Cup I may not make an effort to watch the Kiwis if someone gets shafted just to pander to SBW, that doesn't sit right with me

The smarter thing from Sonny and co would have been to approach Kearney and say he is available again without making it into the media circus that we now have because they decided to put it on twitter. Surely it works better for everyone if he quietly approached, someone would get ruled out and all of a sudden he had a change of heart and came to save his country, would have looked better for their public image hype machine as well

I'd say purposefully not watching their games is pretty close turning your back on them for the tournament. As I've said many times on the issue, why let one player dictate what team you support? Especially when it's your national team. But no point going on about it anymore, each to their own. And to be honest come WC semi final and final I know you'd be watching anyway, aka Ozenud and the GF :lol:

And sure, that would have been the better way to go about it, and by accounts thats what he did.....until Nassar got involved :lol:


Anyway, if this is close to the side we put out in the semi final, it would have to be the strongest Kiwis side of recent history, thats what we should be getting excited about.
