We are being linked to a lot of players.

So, normally we get linked to players and they sign somewhere else because whats actually happened is that the manager has used us to put up the players price.

Given that we have so many players (some would call star players, but regardless they are our most expensive) I would have thought its less believable this year. I mean given how many we have off contract why would you think we would be in the market.

And yet in the last say month, we are linked to McQueen, Matulino and Kane Evans apparently.

The salary cap announcement was disappointing according to the players, and I saw something today saying some teams will have to offload on contract players for next year.

Its really quite strange whats going on - we have Pascoe pretty much saying, if you idiots dont want to sign, leave. At the same time, hes taken contracts off the table (presumably to revise salaries).

Im quietly confident we are going to get through this. For the first time since we merged.

There is also an article out there saying Cleary tried to get Nofo when he was last off contract - so all you Nofo lovers should be a little more relaxed.

Something is cooking and for once, I dont think its beans on toast.

Yes Shredder , at least there is interest in other players for 2018.
Every other year we buy the dregs....
Even heard a swap for Woods and James Graham...i rate Graham better than Woods.
Maybe management have a plan in mind finally,or have been chatting to Cleary on who he wants at this club.?
Cant wait for Rankin,Milone,Edwards to be flicked.

Were still going to need depth Woody and here is where I think the master plan is.

We need to have a long player roster and players like you mentioned wont get a run anywhere else - so we pay them NRL minimum wage and have more to spend on front liners. If we had a team of quality players we could have these monkeys on the books, because we have to and they will never see the top flight again.

Brooks hasn't been offered more than he's on here by all reports so it would appear he's staying. Broncos are going hard after Moses and see him as their halfback next year (some rumours suggesting they may offer 900k which seems crazy and very unlike Bennett.)

Woods and Tedesco will get good offers on the market. We need to keep both. Teddy is obvious. Woods because he's the best prop we have and we have f**k all front row depth.

We're then left looking for a half to partner Brooks. It has to be an experienced top level player who can show Brooks how to control a side.

I reckon our front row depth is excellent. We can afford to let Woods go. I don't want him to go but Ava, Grant, Felise, Aloaia are all great options at prop.

If Woods leaves we will be fine. We also shouldn't retain Moses on that sort of money. Just let him go.

I even think Tedesco at the price we will pay for him is replaceable.

Brooks is barely an NRL player.

So if any of the big 4 leave it's not an issue. We just have to chill out and get a good squad. Our juniors for the money they are after aren't critical.

JAC is an example of a player who is a gun who we let go and it was the wrong decision. Koro is in the same boat. The guys we have now are already expecting to be paid as superstars and we can easily replace them. We could have kept Taupau for a lot less than Woods and he offers a lot more impact.

Woods isn't essential for me. I think he is over rated and I don't think he is a great captain. Let's say we lost woods and bought Matulino and Kane Evans with His money. To me our team would be indiently better.

I do agree that the club seems serious about buying decent players for once. This has a lot to do with our salary cap being completely freed up for the first time in years though. I believe the only players we have committed for next year are Suli, Sue, Lawrence, Liddle, Taylor, Aloiai, Chee Kam and Felisse.

That's a huge amount of money to be able to throw around.

For what it's worth, we have had our share of rumoured signings, coach issues etc. over the years which could be seen as the same as you or to a lesser extent Parra. For some reason you just don't hear too much about it(probably the boys club we have run a tight ship that way). We were buying rubbish players eg like Rankin, Edwards but have moved to get better at this where now we have Vaughan & McInnes changing our fortunes despite having Mary as coach.

If Cleary is signed then you are only a couple of player signings away from better times hopefully starting AFTER today!

Constantly being belted in the middle suggests otherwise. Our failure to compete when Woods goes off the field after half an hour suggests otherwise.

Tedesco is worth what he gets paid. He's that good. Brooks we can retain without busting the bank. If Moses wants to chase the dollars, he can. It's bloody expensive buying halves. We need to retain one of them and preferably the cheaper one. A good forward park will help Brooks. He's never had one to work behind.

Exactly. I just want to come on a fair wage and perform. No drama.

I disagree on Woods. He is a really good player but we've been smashed plenty of times with him on the field. We can't pay overs for the guy.

I want all of the big 4 to stay but on fair wages. I think in a good team they will all shine. I also think if we had just kept Taupau, JAC and Siro we'd look a lot better.

Brooks is the biggest concern to me because I'm not sure if he will make it in the NRL. Tedesco and Woods are already gun players. Moses is definitely an NRL player. My expectation though is that they all want to stay and play for the club and as juniors they don't want to try and screw every little dollar out of us.
