We need to be nice to new people!!!

It is always difficult to become accepted in a forum 'community'.

I remember when I first started posting on a forum. It took weeks before people took me seriously enough to consider my opinions before automatically attacking them (it was a tough forum).

The point is - we should all remember how hard it was to get accepted by others - so we should cut new people some slack.

Most of the new people to post here are true Newcastle supporters, and many of them go away after a week or so because they get a hostile reception.

IMO we need to encourage new people - not deter them.

In that spirit - i'd like to welcome Jennifer85 to the forum - and I look forward to reading your opinions on the lower grades especially.

I agree with your post roopy! I joined the official Knights forum in 2002 and it took me a while to start posting, cos everyone seemed to know each other.

Yes. My name is Oswin. I've never been formally introduced or welcomed.

A bit about me: I've been posting here and on the old forum since 1998/1999.... the only forummer that I know that has been around longer is Gnome, but his visits are sporadic. Formally known as 'Chook' on the old forum. I'm not sure what happened to the old guard -- Brian, jsp2283, Gnome and others. I think Axie was an oldie too -- Axie did make the switch here and is around somewhere. I'm hopeless with names though, which makes me a little hazy on who is who. I know Risa was around for a long time on the old forum, and Kaz was prominent albeit still just as annoying (love your work Kaz ;-) ). Who else was there? Andy, GG, plus any combination of Parki, Jedda, Pumba, Razor, Chileman etc etc (I get you all confused sometimes).

Funnily enough, the likes of Tony, Roopy and others only really became known to me after the old forum... I knew them before, but they've become far more well-known since.

Anyway, I found it tough for my first few months too. Some of the old guard didn't appreciate my arguments.... I've mellowed a lot since my first few months though. These days it's much easier to just join in because there are many new faces and names around -- especially given the number of opposition fans who pop in and out over the course of the season. When I joined, you tended to stick out a bit because there weren't many around.

Anyhow, welcome to all the new people. I know some forums can be a little closed in relation to new members, but you will find this forum is the opposite. Unless you're stirring the pot without a reasonable argument, you're swearing constantly or else you can't put a sentence together to save your life, you'll be more than welcome.

If you've read this far, you will now know what I have a reputation for -- long-winded posts.... congratulations for reading this... I certainly won't. :lol:

Yeah i fully agree with roopy. I really enjoy welcoming new forum members and hearing their views on different issues. Its a shame that sometimes people are put off posting for good after getting cut down in their first few posts.

So i also want to say welcome to Jennifer1985 and any other new forum members, stick around because theres no doubt everyone has some valuable input to contribute.

Yes, I tend to type fairly fast. When did you arrive Astrogirl -- I have the feeling that you really became more involved once this new forum was up and running... unless you went by a different name. But, as I said, my memory is pretty ordinary.

Pretty sure it was April 2002. I was really quiet at first but definitely becamse more vocal prior to relocating to LU.
