Weekend Hussler

Rated best 3yo in the world with a rating of 122.
Equal 8th best horse in the world-same rating as El Segundo.
That horse that won in Dubai on the weekend is it Curling or something like that rated 130,5 points better than the 2nd best horse Dylan Thomas who is now retired.
Ok it won on Saturday by a breath but 8th best horse in the world?
Jury's out for me on this one.

It has won 5 group ones which is outstanding but remember EI has affected a few of its opposition.
I suppose you can only beat who turns up.

You hit the nail right on the head there. The horse has obviously met all the criteria to be rated the 8th best horse in the world and that's exactly what he is, the 8th best horse.

Regardless of EI i don't think anyone could say the horse is a bit special. The way he won the other day after a pretty average ride was very impressive and i don't think many horses would have won under exactly the same circumstances IMO. Even more impressive given it was his first time the Sydney way of going. That's just how i see it anyway.

The only open Group 1 the Hussler won was the Newmarket wasnt it?
1200m.Can anyone remember? It was only about 6 weeks ago if that and beat Magnus I think.
I know it ran about 10th in that 1600m Group 1 at Flemington.
The end of its campaign but I heard the guy say on radio it was great in the lead up to the race.Did my money on it too.
They run it on the last day of the carnival but they change the name that often I dont know what it is now.Emirates,Honda Classic whatever.
No Takeover Target or Miss Andretti(dont know that Miss Andretti would of mattered)for 2 in the Newmarket.
Where's Apache Cat....thats another story?
Anyway its a good year to be backing Melbourne Horses in Sydney for the Carnival coming up.Theyve been pretty average the last few years so if they cant win this year theres no excuses.
Even the best 2yo is out of the way. That thing of Waterhouse's was freakish(Amelias Dream).I know you need luck in races but with an even share it had the Slipper at its mercy. That other thing of hers(Sebring)is not in the same league.

re: weekend hussler - i actually think it deserves it's hype and that it is something special.

if he was ever going to lose a race it was the Emirates Stakes or whatever where it ran 10th. it was just 1 run too much. and then i thought last week would be a shade too tough (up to a mile, sydney way, mild injuries etc etc) and it still held on

if takeover or andretti had have run in the newmarket, hussler would have got less weight. and i still think he would have won

but i agree 8th best in the world is a bit over the top, but that's the way the horses are rated.

re: amelia's dream - what a shame she went amiss. she would have won the Slipper, no doubt. if she hit back luck in the slipper, she would have still won by 2.

a cox plate with horses such as Hussler, Amelia's Dream, Light Fantastic, Marching and then the older horses Racing To Win, El Segundo, Maldivian, Pompeii Ruler etc. = WOW!

Do you think they'll have a crack at the Derby with the Hussler?
I remember a horse called Mahogany killed them in the Derby(VRC) but it couldnt run a distance when it got older.(did run 2nd in a Cox plate-Was it Octagonal that beat it)?Anyway I digress.
Given its solid prep compared to the Sydney horses youd think its a chance.(any prepost betting on this?).
Heard it may take on Racing to Win in the Ryder.(used to be 1500m-assume it still is)
Pity Racing to Win missed that start.
Should still be a good race and the wfa will suit the 8th best horse in the world.

Yep it was the Emirates Stakes where he ran 10th. Given the fact it was his first and his 7th run in 2 1/2 months i think we can forgive him one off run. This horse is the real deal and i don't think there's any denying that.

As for Amelia's Dream the only way she was going to lose the slipper was if she fell. I couldn't give a sh*t if a horse is from Sydney, Melbourne or wherever. I just like watching good horses and she looked like a bit of a freak. Here's hoping she can come back and get somewhere near the potential that she showed in her two runs before her injury.

Are you from Melbourne?
Makes no difference to me where they are from but I prefer backing Sydney horses in Sydney and Melbourne horses in Melbourne.Ei puts a different spin on things.

Pretty sure Weekend Hussler ran a few days before that 1600m race.
Looked like he was doing it tough but exploded in the last 200m.
Straight race 1200m I think.
Ran against 3yo's only.
Sorry dont know the name of it.
Remember the free to air coverage instead of.Sky
Sorry read your post wrong but think I got it right what I've said here.

The Hussler will probably be running in the Doncaster, but in saying that there was talk that he may not with the weight he was given. As for the Derby i don't even think it was nommed for that.

And yes, it was Octagonal that pipped Mahogany on the post in the 1995 Cox Plate. I remember it well because i was on Mahogany

I think it was the Ascot Vale and he won it on the Saturday derby day. He's a champion in waiting, but he will have a fair bit of weight in the Doncaster, and weight will stop a train. He's a risk in the Doncaster IMO.

yeah apparently they didn't want to over-use the hrose this prep so it could come back and run in the cox plate (maybe even the cup)

so this prep winning 3 group 1's from 3 (i think) isn't bad for not wanting to over-use the horse before the spring

and that race where it won in the spring was the ascot vale on derby day. 3yo 1200m down the straight - then one week later was asked to go up to 1600m at his 7th start that prep (which was still his first prep) against the older horses for the first time

I suppose it goes without saying they have massive raps on him down there?

I cant see why he wont win the Doncaster.
If I owned I'd be running it.If he wins that I still dont know he's the 8th best horse in the world.
Even Hong Kong have a couple of good ones.
Havent seen the full list but that Viva Pataca(however you spell it)and that sprinter that killed Miss Andretti(saw it get butchered a few weeks ago)have to be in that list.Think it stats with S.(not Silent Witness).

And yep I backed Mahogany too.It was only a bob of the head.

Champion is a word used too often in racing circles nowadays. Weekend Hussler is on his way though. Manikato was one of the best sprinters I've seen and Weekend Hussler is very much like him.
I agree with the tag Champion in waiting. Certainly the best 3 year old in Australia at the moment.
Hussler is very exciting and it's horses like him that draw you to the races. IE or no EI the record books show the group 1s he has won. Who's to say he wouldn't have won them even if the Sydney horses were there.

I love this time of year (and spring) as you get to see the best against the best. EI has stuffed the calander though. Fancy the Queen of the Turf being run at Canterbury. I'm used to watching upto 20 fillies and mares charging round the bend at Rosehill. Sadly Canterbury can't hold that many.

Mate, if the official ratings system say he's the 8th best horse in the world then he's the 8th best horse in the world no matter what you or i say. Personally i don't really care about those ratings anyway. I'm sure plenty do and give them creedence but it's irellevant to me, if a horse is good a horse is good and that's the only rating i need ;-)

As the boys pointed out it was the Ascot Vale, i called it by the sponsors name which is Coolmore so i was half right

True.
Its good to see a horse can create a conversation(its been a while since one has shown this much potential).
And on the Queen of the Turf Stakes what was doing there?
Agree again.

Mate, I have cleaned up on the Sydney horses in Melbourne theory over the years and had a good success rate on the top notch Melbourne horses in Sydney - same as Sydney horses in Brisbane in the respective Spring, Autumn and Winter carnivals.

To each their own I suppose. ;-)
