Weirdest Thing you have ever eaten?

I have to say, I'm pretty cautious when it comes to all the weird and wonderful foods out there.

The most daring I have gotten was game meat in Africa. I tried Impala, Kudu, Eland & Oryx. In Aus I have tried Kangaroo, Buffalo & Emu. Surprisingly I found the Emu very, very tasty, but thus far, nothing beats the Oryx, best meat I have ever eaten.

I haven't tried any crazy food like century eggs, bull testicles etc, but I guess the most unhygienic thing I have eaten was beef brought in the Katatura markets in Windhoek, Namibia. No refrigeration, the meat was cut up with dirty knives, crawling with insects and left out on wooden benches. We just brought a piece, the guy cooked it on the BBQ, we took it off the BBQ with our hands, dipped into some spices and ate it. Not bad

I'm not sure if I would have it in me to eat something I saw like that. But I love eating animals, and as long as I feel like the meat is clean, I'm prepared to try different meats on offer. But if the meat has an off putting look I won't try it and if the texture of it in my mouth is unpleasant, I will spit it out.

*Deep breath*

- Deep fried grasshoppers
- Boiled silkworm larvae
- Dog soup
- Horse and camel steaks
- Still moving octopus tentacles (they remain animate for about 15-20 minutes after amputation)
- Drunk shrimp
- Live sea cucumber

The last two are still alive. The former is so soaked in baijiu (Chinese liquor) that it is comatose. The sea cucumber... you can feel it pulsing on your tongue and when you bite into it, it ejaculates this salty sea-water shit down your throat. I kid you not.

Heard deep fried grasshoppers are beautiful

Not bad at all. Had them with chocolate at the Arizona State Fair and served Yunnan style at a restaurant in Shanghai.

I've had camel and after I had it I didn't think it was weird at all.

What's drunk shrimp?

What's drunk shrimp?

It's when shrimp/prawns are soaked in baijiu (a sorghum based liquor anywhere between 40% and 75% alcohol) to the point of coma. You eat them, shells and all. They're not dead.

Deep fried spiders.
Sparrow.
Bat.
Snake.

All in Cambodia.
Camel, emu, crocodile, kangaroo all fairly readily available in the NT. Camel is great and considering there are over a million of the feral f**kers in Australia should be on the menu more widely.
