Craig Fitzgibbon has inked a three-year deal to take charge of Cronulla next season.
The Roosters assistant is understood to have put pen to paper on Tuesday, with an assurance provided to the Tricolours that there is no chance Fitzgibbon will be pitched into the role any earlier than the start of 2022 pre-season work.
Neither the Sharks or Roosters have made any official comment on their coaching post.
Should Morris consider his position untenable now his days are numbered at the club, Cronulla will look to caretaker options rather than pursue an early release for Fitzgibbon.
Captain Wade Graham told reporters earlier on Tuesday that clarity on the coaching post is needed to ensure Cronulla's 2021 campaign isn't derailed.

"The best thing moving forward would be for the club to make a decision either way as quick as possible so we can put it behind us and move on for the rest of the season," Graham said.
"From a player's point of view, it's not ideal. It can become a distraction if we let it. So hopefully there is a resolution as soon as possible.
"Our point of view is the speculation is unfair on the players, on John, on the club and the members and the fans.
"The situation isn't great and ... until a decision is made there is going to be continued speculation.
"We're all thinking a decision has to be made.
"My job as a senior player is to try and keep the boys as focused as I can and try and focus on the results."
The Sharks have a 2-3 record under Morris so far this season after back-to-back finals appearances, despite playing under a reduced salary cap and to a backdrop of ongoing off-field issues.
