Well that went way worse than could have been expected.
32k for their first game in the NRL is shocking considering the size of the Brisbane market and the potential there. 40k would have been respectable, and about the 42k that the Titans' pulled to their first game, but a well run organisation in Brisbane could realistically have been around the 50k mark. But to get only 32k is a disaster frankly, and shows that they've totally failed to engage with huge portions of the population.
To give you an idea of just how abysmal 32k is in actuality; even GWS drew 38K people to their first game in 2012, and you know you've f**ked up when even GWS out did you...
15k members is really concerning as well, especially so when considering that the vast majority of those members aren't season ticket holders. It was predictable that splitting their home grounds the way they have would massively impact membership and season ticket numbers, and will eventually severely effect crowds, but to only have 15k members at the start of their first season in a supposedly RL mad city of 2.5mil is way worse than could have been predicted.
A well run second Brisbane side could, and should, have had between 10-15k season ticket holders by now, and at the very least another 10k members of varying levels. You've got to think that the vast, vast, majority of their members only have tickets to their closest venue as well, if they have a ticketed membership at all, and not season tickets, which is probably millions of dollars in revenue gone begging already. It's completely insane that the NRL have allowed that level of incompetence.
At this point the NRL must be panicking, that is if there's anybody with enough braincells left at the NRL to even realise that they've got a serious problem yet. If they're smart they'll do everything within their power to make sure that the Dolphins go deep into the finals (it shouldn't have come to this, but yes, I'm saying rig it), and look into ways to try and gain some control over the club to make positive change for the future. If they don't step in the Dolphins are going to be an absolute shitshow once the novelty effect wears off.

South Queensland Dolphins???Queensland Dolphins. Problem solved.
Given the context of the times, and the individual circumstances of each club, the only ones of those that are particularly surprising are the top three. How they rank for opening games for the countries top two codes

It's more likely than not that in a decade's time the Dolphins will be regularly averaging sub-20k crowds (shit, that starts next week lol), their membership numbers will be middling at best, and they'll be generally underperforming by most metrics.
By that time people will be pushing hard for a third team in Brisbane to fix the rot (who am I kidding, that's already happening), but depending on who's administering the sport at the time the NRL will probably f**k that up as well, as all of the Broncos, Titans, Dolphins, and News, will be pushing hard to make sure that it's another shitbox suburban club from the outer suburbs, like Redcliffe, that poses little to no threat to their interests.
The only likely scenario that prevents the future from playing out that way is if the Dolphins are highly successful on the pitch. If they're successful on the pitch and win a GF or two, or build one of the dynasties of the 2020s, then that success will paper over the cracks to varying degrees. You know what they say, success solves everything.

The Titans had much more positive press around them than the Dolphins did. They also had a few marquee players - Prince, Campbell, Rogers which would have pushed up that crowd number. They have been a basket case since 2010 though so first game crowd doesn't indicate much....Given the context of the times, and the individual circumstances of each club, the only ones of those that are particularly surprising are the top three.
If GWS plays a different team you could probably more than half that attendance.
Titans is an interesting one, because who knows what their attendance would have been if there was a suitable stadium available on the GC for them to play that game out of at the time.
