It is a pretty reasonable assumption, conservative even.

Don't know why you people have to keep being told the evidence of multiple sold out games there over nearly 20 years and add in huge attendances to 2 double headers and origins.

The fact the game was so strong over there before and during the reds and survived even after the super league war says something about the supporter base there, not to mention the massive influx of east coasters, kiwis and poms that are cashed up from working in the mines and you don't think a rich capital city with over 2 million people can capatilise on all that and generate enough revenue and win new fans?

You don't have much faith in rugby league do you? You probably believe the articles that the afl will take over western brisbane because there isn't a team with a suburb name from there in the nrl.

Fact is that perth has a history of rugby league support and has proven it deserves a team.
All you and I can do is make guesses as to wether we think they can make enough money to be sustainable and successful, but at the end of the day they are just guesses.

I believe the history and evidence shows they can and this will be a good thing for growing the game overall not just for WA.

You believe the opposite because you're cynical and trolling perth supporters is the thing to do on this forum apparently.

Either way it is the government and the bid team that are putting their money where their mouth is, so if they think it's a wise investment than so be it.

The game wasn't very strong in Perth during the Western Reds era. Attendances were diabolical when compared to the other three expansion clubs from 1995. The club was financially destitute, too. News Ltd bailed them out, but the club was still a financial basket case.





The bloke who sponsored the financially destitute Reds is leading the current bid.

NSWRL games were taken to Perth in the early 1990s. They drew very good crowds. It didn't lead to rusted on support for the Reds.

Why should I assume that attendances of 15k at PRS over the last 20 years for one off games will lead to Perth 2.0 having 15k rusted on supporters?

It's one thing to draw a crowd to a game that's held once a year. It's another thing to have the same people coming back every fortnight for twelve games. A one off game is a novelty. Twelve games each year is tiring and weeds out the bandwagon followers. Reds found this out the hard way. Especially in 1996 when they had a slow start to the season. Attendances nosedived when the Reds went from winning half of their games in 1995 to being losers in the first half of 1996.

Ironically, the NRL took two games to Perth in 2017. Attendances were terrible. Just 11k for the first game. A poultry 6k for the second one that was played there a few weeks later.

It’s safe to assume that a Perth club will draw bigger crowds than non perth clubs have done.

Just 11k and 6k for the two games held at PRS in 2017. That was the only year that more than one event was held in Perth.

NSWRL games in Perth during the early 1990s drew larger crowds than the Reds were able to average in their best year.

The Reds had the 8th best attendance ave in 1995. They slipped into the bottom half of attendances in '96 and '97 but they were never the worst. They were a fledgling clubs amongst a civil war in frontier territory, and the crowds stabilised. All the while they were playing out of a cricket oval (+1 game at pre-developed Perth Oval).

Their attendances were good compared to most Sydney clubs, but were well behind the other expansion clubs from 1995.

My point is the Reds were never as popular as the Cowboys and Warriors.

Yet people think Perth 2.0 are going to be as big as the Broncos?

I will be highly surprised if Perth 2.0 is bigger than the Titans.
