Congratulations to Dave Furner on coaching the Raiders Premier League team to the preliminary final. David is one of the genuinely good guys in Rugby League. I expect him to have a coaching career to match his father Don.

Through all the glitz and glamour of our 90's sides, Furner was always my favourite player. So underrated, deserved more accolades than he received.

Unfortunately he represents the boys club mentality that exists in the club, top bloke though.

If the boys club gets results, and it has in this case, then I'm fine with it.

So the fact that he's returned to the club after people were calling for us to bring back the legends of the club, he's part of the "boys club" simply because he's named Furner?

As hrundi said, if that's what it takes to get results, I'll support him.

jed anyone could have gotten results with our PL roster. hes a good bloke, and by the looks of it a decent coach too, but you can't deny the fact that he only got the job because his last name is furner.

top bloke, appears to be a more the competent coach but he is there thanks to the old boys club... easily the old boys clubs best members

If they can do a good job, why wouldn't you have ex great players of the club involved?

the fear is simply Dave could be the next generation of the old inept boys club that has run us down the sh*tter over recent years. Ronald Furner (Daves father) being their leader

So are you saying we shouldn't have brought him back because his last name is Furner? Seriously, that's stupid.

Like I've said in the past, a year ago everyone was screaming out for us to bring back our club legends, yet when one does come back, he's not given a fair go because of his family connections. Honestly, you can't have it both ways.

Dave has Premierships with Raiders, premiership with Leeds, Clive Churchill Medal winner. Impeccable League back ground.....
and you think he got the job because his name is Furner...What a load of crap!!!

Sorry to cause a fuss. I know your Club does not like ACHIEVERS. David is certainly an ACHIEVER. Get over it.

I'm with parra pete here. David Furner has achieved pretty much everything in his career, and has an outstanding footballing pedigree.

In my opinion, he should be judged by us on those facts, plus his performance. If you weigh them up, I can't see what the problem is here? Would you consider Matthew Elliott or Andrew McFadden as "old boys club" appointments? I hardly think so.

I think some people are missing the point. David Furner finished his career last year and walked straight into one of the best PL jobs in the league, coincedently the one where his brother is head of the operation and Father is on the board. It reeks of boys club....what coaching credentials does he have better than the guy who coached the QBN Blues to a premiership? None, he has achieved as a player yet gets the job coaching with the Raiders? Anyone suggesting that it isn't a little more than a coincedence is kidding themselves.

Jed, Dave Furner is an ex player and Yes a few of us have been calling for some pride to be instilled in the Green jumper but I want someone who can coach us out of 2nd last and that will require someone who wasn't a forward. Most games our forwards compete yet we have no idea at the business end of the field. We want Daley, Stuart or someone who has a brain to unlock defences. Unfortuately Furner made his name as a strong forward and a toiler....what can he teach Carney and Co?

Furner inherited a fantastic side that was shaped and moulded by Wayne 'snoopy' Collins. Furner managed to coach that side to 4th on the table which is pretty much standard (would have been higher if he didn't have to give players to FG every week). I don't see why a thread is needed to praise Furner when he hasn't done anything spectacular at all.
