In the ESL maybe.

Idiot. Watch some football before you make idiot claims. Aside from the fact that several ESL backrowers would walk right into run on sides in most squads down here (Peacock, for example)- you also don't give enough credit to Simpson and Newton. Hell, Abraham was on track to play Origin last year before he got injured playing for Country.

I was most delighted this morning to wake up here in Texas, check the scores on NRL.com & discover that the Kights had got up! I would have hate to have seen them go through the year winless. Looking at their run home I think this Penrith game was their best chance of jagging a win & I am certainly glad they did. Congrats Newcastle.....a new major sponsor & your first win of the year. Hopefully things have turned the corner for the Knights.

Yep, credit to the Newcastle Knights who put on a brilliant second half to run down the Penrith Panthers who were simply pathetic at stages in the second half. If it was not for the efforts of Priddis, Gower, Clinton and Ross, it could of been an easier night in the office for Newcastle in the late stages of the game.

IMO, that the best game I have seen from Clint Newton. He was like the 'rampaging Knight' down the left hand of the field and was the biggest benefactor from the return of Andrew Johns.

Craig Smith is not getting the credit he deserves. He was no frills last night, though stood up to be counted AGAIN for the Newcastle team.

Joey himself came good in the second half, though I would like to know how bad that groin strain was as he was reluctant to take on the Panthers defensive line last night, He opted to either turn the ball inside or go wide, whilst it made an impact in the last stanza, I am left wondering how he has pulled up after cooling down. Can anyone shed light?

1 from 14 ain't bad...

As per the poll last week, Newcastle win games this season with their best players on the field at the same time. Last night that was not the case and they still won against a pretty toothless Panthers side in the second half.

Souths v Newcastle and the race to avoid the wooden spoon just heated up with Newcastle getting an unexpected 2pts back on them last night...

I think you need to give some credit to Frank Pritchard as well. He looked dangerous everytime he touched the ball.

Whilst that was Newton's best game in first-grade to date, he has been fantastic for us all season. Last night was not a one-off performance, and he is certainly able to perform in Johns' absence.

Agreed. Especially late in the game when the Panthers rallied.

The Knights are a dangerous side. Every side in the comp beware. If the Knights get their best squad on the park before the end of the season, they can easily upset the "top sides"

Well done Knights players , and enjoy the weekend Knights fans.

It is.

When all three are fit and in form that would be in the top 4 of backrows.

Fit and in form ay?

Panthers - Big Joe, Puletua, Pritchard... waterhouse also
Roosters - Flannary, Fitzgibbon, Ricketson
Manly - Watmough, BK, Menzies
Brisbane - Thorn, Carroll, Stagg
Eels - Hindmarsh, Morrison, Wagon
Cowboys - Webb, O'Donnell, Norton
Bulldogs - Mason, Ryan, Matua

i have, was a gutsy win, if you had read the game before you'd see that
but claiming the knights back row is 'world class' is just being dumb, and being me, i cant allow such an idiotic statement to go by without proving it wrong
Its at best a decent to good back row

I'd be confident in our backrow to get the job done against any of them.

Ricky Stuart was the best player in 1994... is that to say he is still as good now?
three years in league is a VERY long time mate, face it, your back row is far from 'world class'

Nope infact they were all just pups and had only played junior reps, never senior. So they have only gotten better. If they manage to string some games together next year I'm quite confident they will win us a few games.

we'll see
im still not convinced that your entire team can win you a few games, let alone your not better than average back row.
