HJ, the greatest defender of Brian Smith known to man, has plastered Planet's "Time to go Smith" banners in his sig.

After THAT massive turnaround, I'll now not at all be surprised if...

Lazarus' Reef is found

Willy Mason becomes a jesuit priest

Osama Bin Ladin celebrates Yom Kippur

Daniel Wagon becomes test 5/8.

All I can summise is that HJ walked through the valley of the shadow of Parramatta's death and succumbed to the temptation of actually winning games.

Welcome to the bandwagon, HJ!:clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:

Carefull Misty, time changes everyone, it was only 2 years ago that I had a big debate with you on another forum, albeit under a different sig, regarding Smith and it was YOU who was defending Smithy with all your might :)

Cheers

the banner has been removed, pending this weekend's game.

I do believe it took balls to do what Smith has done with this weeks team, and I applaud him for it by giving him some breathing space.

Smithy has lost the plot if he thinks Armitt wont do better for our team than AFasamaga. He has lost the logical and consistent edge to his thinking in every way.

Armitt is an awsome boy and is great in his passion and hardness not to mention his skill-Smithy does not know a good footballer ,cause this kids top notch-i watch him closely and noone wants to run near him and when he takes the ball forward there is no mucking around and technical complication of which angle to run and to what part of the field -he gets it and hammers it forward-hard and simple and consistent-what else would you want from a prop?

So HJ, if we beat the Tigers, will you still brazenly assert that Brian Smith will lead us to a premiership this year?

You dissapoint, HJ. Nevertheless, let it be known that for one brief hour you actually got something right! Maybe THAT ws a miracle after all!

the thing is he did what we all wanted him to do. he sacked under-performing players and is giving our juniors a chance to shine in First Grade.

If he does what we want him to do, then how can you continue to ask for his head? He at least deserves to be given a rest until this Sunday, when we see the results of his actions (which we asked for!). And I am not talking about a win here, let's get that straight. What I most want is structure and purpose in the Eels' play, and some passion and determination from the 17 running onto the paddock.

Some say he should have gone further and sacked Vella and Wagon, and thus still call for his head for not doing this. But I disagree. Without these two in the team we would not have a legitimate long term Eel to captain the side, and very little experience to hold the team together. Thus, some may say unfortunately, Wagon and/or Vella have to remain in First Grade considering we have lost Dykes and Morris.

The argument of Hindmarsh being captain is not valid. He will be coming straight off a SOO game, which no doubt has him under some pressure, and he cannot be expected to do everything by himself and still excel. If this was the case, there would be no need for the sackings in the first place, which there obviously was a need for.

Thus, my opinion on Smith's tenure as Coach will be put on hold, pending further evaluation Sunday night at the Leagues Club :D

Well said HJ.

I must say......I take my hat off to Brian.
He has had the courage and conviction to experiment big time.
But, he is also trying to save his own arse.

I will back him this week due to his courage. I also don't expect a win, but as HJ said, an improved performance with passion and determination will do me.
And I mean for 80 minutes, not 10 or 20.

GO GET 'EM PARRA AND SMITHY!!

I have to actually agree with Suity

many people are patting Smith on the back for making big changes when it looks like he may lose his job.

Not sure who posted it but someone said "Smith could have taken to easy option and kept the same side instead of risking his job on a lot of kids" (or words to that effect)

I see it the other way I think that Smith would have been closer to getting dumped had he not tried things.

Don't get me wrong I applaud Smith for taking the action that he has but I also think that it was more needed then some people are making out

Trouble is, HJ, I don't consider a win over the Tigers as the pinacle of coaching sucess. He has much to do to erase the garbage of the last 2.5 seasons

A win over the Tigers while not the pinnacle of a season will at least help get the bilge pump going a bit faster to right the ship. Smithy has made a bold move, one that many have wanted, but one which many will still criticise. Its a change he had to make - it makes a point that no one is considered untouchable as well as adding some enthusiaism that has been lacking. It may be too late or it may be at exactly the right time - hopefully we'll know come Sunday afternoon.

A win over the Tigers won't be anything special, but it will keep us on the 50% win track that is the minimum we need (up until Round20 anyways) to make the finals.

I beg to differ. The name D. Wagon comes to mind. ;-)

Gotta agree with that one.

Was watching the team after Saints had scored to make the score 18-6, the team was gathered behind the posts.
Heads were down, and our brave and clueless captain was standing to one side, watching the kick for goal, sucking away on his mouthguard as if it was a dummy (appropriate).

Any other captain should have been in there urging the troops for one last effort.

That's when you knew we were gone, Saints sensed it as well and ran all over us.
