I wouldnt expect miracles from Ivan. He's a good coach and he will improve your team in many ways. But he wont come in and turn you into instant premiership contenders.

His first step will be cleaning out the roster and building a team with players earning what they are worth.

It could be a good thing your big 4 are off contract at once. He wont be stuck keeping them on overs if he doesnt want them.

At Penrith he had to offload Jennings. Grant. Coote. Lewis etc. And we copped a bit of a hit for a season or two while they were still contracted.

If he keeps Tedesco and Moses. Signs Matulino and Whare. Finds an experienced half (like Soward in 2014) you guys could be a top 8 threat as soon as next year though. The experienced half is the key... I can't think of any that fit the bill and are available. Plus fitting them into your cap might not be ppssible if you have others on overs. Although if the money your big 4 want was spare... i think he can do it

:) Yeah I noticed -

Woods is one of the best props in the game - I dont want to pay him a million, but he doesnt want to leave either, all that postcode crap.

I reckon he is just playing the managers game and will stay put.

Its just our luck though MU - first season with a decent coach AND cash in the tin, noone is available.

Foran isn't contracted anywhere next year.

Give him and Teddy 900k
Woods 750k
Moses 250k
Brooks 250k
Theres half the cap spent. 4.2 mil for the remaining 20 players (which is 210k average for each of them)

Would work - we need an organising half - doesnt really matter if he wears 6 or 7 they are interchangeable these days.

A half, that holds his own in defence and can kick - Foran works

I'm happy to keep Woods but not on top dollar. Look at the list of players I said that we have that can play up the middle. It's a strength for us. Moses and Brooks won't stay for $250k each even though they should.

As for getting gun players I'd love to see Foran here but honestly I'm more concerned about getting a gun winger and a gun backrower.

Tedesco is a tough decision because he is a great player but I'm not sure he deserves a million a season.

I think all of the big 4 should be retained but with reasonable offers. If any of them go I don't think it's a huge deal. I think Woods is probably the easiest to replace out of all of them.

I reckon we just wait and see what happens but my concern will be overpaying Woods, Moses and Brooks. I think we can pay a little overs for Teddy because he is a player who can win games for us. If we overpay for all four of them and don't get players to slot into the areas where we are weak we are just going to end up in a bad position again.

If we keep shopping at Aldi we will keep getting crap results.

Our middle has improved slightly this year, but I think it only looks that way because teams are targeting our edges because its easier.

As Ive said many times, we are not 1 or 2 players away.

To become genuine premier contenders, we need to sweep this entire roster and from the other posts on here, I think that is the consensus.

Where we are reminds me of the last few years of the Magpies. We have a couple of decent players and garbage. I remember Trevor Cogger trying his heard out every week for nothing.

Geez Foran would b ideal. He hits like a Mack truck in defence & has a great work ethic + a very good kicking game traits that the overpaid wanka moses is devoid of !

Foran would b definitely worth loosening the purse strings for.

I love Aldi.

I don't think we need massive changes but I do think we need to buy some quality players in key positions. We can't though overpay our juniors that come through and we can't overpay in positions that we are already strong in.

Fix the issues that we have. Purchase the right players.

Yeah Foran would be good but get ready to chuck the bank at him. I'd rather get a half like Townsend for half the price if we could

Or...if we could snare Ivan's son over with him

Ivan's kid would b ideal but unfortunately he is contracted to the foot of the mountains for a few more yrs !!

To think that Ivan's son would b earning a fraction of what backdoors useless nephew is demanding !

And what makes you think we would get "Manly form" Foran and drama free?...yep...what tigers need is a couple of years of more nonsense

We need smart recruitment and quality retention. We just have to start viewing this as a business.

Foran on x dollars in our current team structure is worth the risk. If someone offers over that then we just make sure he is on the books in that club for that amount.

Retention has been as poor for us as recruitment.

Just on the Woods issue - I think there have been quite a lot of posts over the various threads about him not being a valuable asset and not being a gun etc etc.

Now if people are prepared to let Woods go then we sure better go and buy a half with a good LONG kicking game because we're going to need it cos we'll be kicking from deep inside our territory on most sets.

Woods is arguably the best "metre eater" or "go forward" prop in the game!

Stats from the past two seasons where Woods was rated in the top 5 both years across all facets measured on props including Avge Metres Per Game, Offloads, tackles, line breaks.

In terms of AMPG he ranked #1 in 2015 and #2 in 2016 (see below)

2015 - Woods (163) / Bromwich (158) / Graham (144) / Scott (138) JWH (122)
2016 - Fifita (171) / Graham (166) / Woods (160) / Bromwich (148) / Scott (126)

My conclusion is therefore - Don't pay overs....but pay top prop dollars (whatever that is and that is whatever the market dictates...much like houses).
