Dragons' Naiqama lands in trouble again

St George Illawarra winger Wes Naiqama was arrested but not charged early on Sunday over an alleged assault in Sydney's King Cross.
Police were called to the Sapphire Suite nightclub on Bayswater Road about 5am (AEDT).
The Seven Network reported Naiqama, 24, was arrested when a bloodied-faced man complained to police the rugby league footballer had assaulted him.
But the man left the premises before police could get his name.
Police then released Naiqama without charge.
It is the second time in recent weeks that Naiqama has been arrested.
In November a photograph of him sitting behind the wheel of a car was published by News Limited newspaper. It led to him being charged with driving without a licence.
Naiqama's licence had been suspended until 2013.
He pleaded guilty last week over this incident and will be sentenced in February.
The St George rugby league club said it would wait until after the sentencing to decide his future, the Seven Network reported.

I won't comment before we get more facts on the alleged assault claim though Wes should keep in mind he is dispensable at a club that has some great junior talent coming through. Peter Doust's patience must be wearing thin waking up to another story involving Wes off the field in as many weeks.

The Morris brothers on the wing for the Dragons would make a great story ;-)

FFS what is he doing in a Kings Cross nightclub at 5am given the strife he is currently in? Another wasted talent it would seem.

Naiqama quizzed on fight

LEAGUE bad boy Wes Naiqama is facing the sack after the St George Illawarra star was quizzed by police yesterday after another alcohol-fuelled incident.

Dragons officials are set to meet with the winger this morning after he was questioned by police following a brawl in Kings Cross early yesterday morning.

Just days after Naiqama pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified, a man alleged Naiqama punched him in the face on Bayswater Rd, outside the Sapphire Sweet nightspot about 5am. The man, who had a bloodied face, claimed he had been punched by the Dragons flyer and demanded police charge him with assault. With singer girlfriend Paulini Curuenavuli by his side, Naiqama was questioned before being let off without charge.

The Dragons yesterday would not comment but insiders said boss Peter Doust is far from happy. The 24-year-old has been repeatedly warned about his off-field behaviour.

The St George Illawarra Dragons were today made aware that Wes Naiqama was involved in an alleged incident in the city overnight.

The Club is investigating the details, which are separate to the judicial process that is under way regarding his driving while disqualified offence.

“The Club is very concerned to learn that Wes has allegedly been involved in a public incident overnight,” said Dragons Chief Officer Peter Doust.

“We take such matters very seriously and it is important we investigate the matter thoroughly before determining our position”.

Let off without charge. If the "victim" was so keen on getting him charged with assault, he would have stuck around to get it done. I'd say the fact that the police let Wes go, especially with him already in court for another offence, means there was a whole lot of nothing about it. I've seen a fair few footy players about town cop a gobful from some jealous wanker. I'd bet this was one time the wanker got a gobful of knuckles in return.

Leaving before 2 is usually the sign of an ordinary night. Guess Wes must've been having a biggie!

Sure... the media are full of angels too.

The media have a responsibilty to report the news accurately.
btw... reading that last sentence back is worth a chuckle or two.

Update:

Following a club investigation into an alleged public incident involving Wes Naiqama over the weekend, the St George Illawarra Dragons have this afternoon stated that they are satisfied that Wes’s involvement was not of his making.

Dragons club officials have spoken to a number of people present on the evening, including the police and the other person involved in the incident.

However, in their media release, the Dragons have stated that they are 'greatly dissatisfied that Wes would put himself in such a situation; particularly given the circumstances surrounding his driving offence.' The statement also acknowledged that these recent public incidents are very different and need to be treated as such.

Last week, Naiqama pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified, sentencing will be handed down in February 2007. The Dragons winger's position with the club is currently under review, and this recent incident will be taken into consideration when determining his future upon the completion of the impending judicial process.

Until such time, the club has an ongoing Management plan which has been developed and accepted by Naiqama to help with a number of private issues that he is currently facing in his life.

This management plan has been developed in consultation with the Players’ Leadership Group, who have helped set the parameters as they are also concerned with the all-round welfare of their team-mate.

So?

Are you suggesting Channel 7 (or any media) are above criticism because of the ratings?

I still remember the "he doesn't know the rules" excuse when he tried to trip someone.
