West Coast Pirates Bid News

That Squabble as you call it could effect the WA Reds bid, if the NRL forced a team from Sydney to relocate then the relocation of a Sydney team to Perth is possible. Something the WARL has not ruled out even though they have the WA Reds. If that were to happen then bye bye WA Reds bid.

haha, draw that long bow!

Fortunately there is no suggestion of a relocation by a Sydney team and little suggestion that the WARL would welcome it. As a fan I know I wouldn't for many reasons that I have stated in the past.

Well i had to do something to pull it back  :p

Fortunately there is no suggestion of a relocation by a Sydney team and little suggestion that the WARL would welcome it. As a fan I know I wouldn't for many reasons that I have stated in the past.

The West Australian Rugby League (WARL) says it would support any decision by the game's administrators to base a team in Perth.
The WARL administration is determined to bid for a franchise if the competition is expanded.
WARL chief executive John Sackson says while Western Australia want its own team, any approach to relocate a Sydney club to Perth would be welcome.
"We would have to consider that... if that was the case we would certainly hope that sort of offer would be accompanied by substantial support funding," he said.
"We're very very keen to have an NRL team again based out of Perth and representing Western Australia in the NRL."

There was a little one, now don;t lie to use Perth Red lol.

But on a serious note mate, I am fully behind WA getting back their own Identity.

I think he was just not burning any bridges in that comment. Having spoken with Richard and the bid team I can assure you that they are fully committed to any future NRL team being the Reds and feel that our own team with our own identitiy will be able to attract WA investors and sponsors easier than a failed Sydney club looking for a lifeline.

Having said all that if the NRL said here's a team and $6million a year extra I am sure they would be tempted!

Perth Red, one question.

When you guys DO get in, what would you use as a heritage jersey, the 1995 strip or the Super League strip.

Will we have two teams omitted in to the comp that want to play in red and black?

This is what the Reds wear, although there's always the possibility that they will change their colours before they officially hand in their bid document.

I would imagine the 1995 strip, The WARL were ousted from running the club in 1997 so I doubt they will want to be reminded of that!

I hope we change our colours to red and yellow ala Les Catalans Dragons and change our logo back to the original design.

It would be nice to have Rio Tinto on board.

I hope the colours are Red and Old Gold (not yellow gold, but bronze gold). It'd be rather unique in Rugby League.

Perth's a bright place!

I wouldn't be overly surprised if we got a mining company on board. If we are clever we will look to tie them up with rural/aboriginal health/RL programs in the North where the mines are and where companies are always looking for ways to throw money at the local communities to seem like good citizens. Also they desperately need to attract workers and what better than Eastern states Q'land and Newcastle workers?

Alternatively our old sponsor has changed colours to red and gold which would fit nicely with a new shirt colour!

I'm going to say it again, I love love LOVE the jerseys they have now. They'd be foolish to change them.

really? Whilst i don't dislike them I do find the silver/grey a weak colour. Whatever we come up with I hope it is predominantly red with a dash of another bright colour.

West would still go wild for elite league, says Geyer

Daniel Lane

December 5, 2010
FORMER Western Reds enforcer Mark Geyer has urged for Perth to be resurrected as a rugby league centre by insisting it was on the verge of ''great things'' before being disbanded in the aftermath of the Super League war.
The Reds were one of four expansionary teams to join the Australian Rugby League competition in 1995 before they defected to Super League. The outpost became a casualty of the war when it was shut down as part of the peace deal brokered between the ARL and News Ltd but they are in the mix to re-enter in 2013.
''We have to give Perth another go,'' said Geyer, who was one of the team's big-name recruits.

''I'm going to be accused of being biased because I played there, but I know the potential the place offers.
''We only dipped our toe in the water over there. When I was there 15 years ago the junior competition was good. While there were only five teams in the competition there was a lot of quality there, and from what I understand that is still the case.''
League has continued to thrive at a junior level, with 3000 registered players, and seven of them have been signed to NRL teams.
Geyer said the so-called tyranny of distance was not an excuse to ignore Western Australia.
''If two AFL teams can thrive there so far away from Melbourne and the [Super rugby team] the Western Force is based there along with the Perth Wildcats NBL team and the WA cricket team, I can't see why league can't have a WA team in the national competition.
''The 4½-hour flight from Sydney to there is nothing. It is a great market, a growing population and rich in potential.''
Geyer, who also favoured the Central Coast bid, said he would welcome the day when the elite rugby league competition boasted 20 teams.

Every word of what Geyer has to say is right on the money. Bears + Reds + eventual goal of a 20 team comp.
