West Tigers anti Bears!!!

Quote from Wests Tigers CEO.

"The mandate in 1999 was that the competition would be no more than 14 teams," said Wests Tigers chief executive Steve Noyce.

"That made some very proud members of the Wests and Balmain clubs forgo 90 years of history to create the joint venture.

"Very clearly that decision was based on a 14-team competition.

"We respect South Sydney's re-entry but cannot support the addition of another team."

Can someone please explain to me as a Bears supporter how I'm NOT supposed to be offended by this :x

Clearly he DOSE NOT care about 90 years of history otherwise he would be supporting the representation of the Bears in the Central Coast Bears.

Why should the Bears be banished from the NRL forever.

How long do we have to wait till Wests Tigers get over something that WAS NOT the Bears fault.

After that statement from Noyce as far as I'm concerned Wests Tigers can go away and die and the Bears take their place.

Are there any Wests Balmain supporters out there?

Explain to me why I should care about your club after this?

Ask yourselves and Manly.

I agree with him, except for the Souths bit.

As if you care about them anyway. :?

This can't be about grudges and what has happened in the past, it has to be about what's good for the game to move us forward.

I don't profess to know what supporters of teams who's clubs are no longer with us or are currently in a joint-venture are going through, I could not comprehend it, but in my opinion Noyce's attitude won't let us move forward when the time comes that this compeitition needs to expand for the good of the game.

Cheers.

1/ what did Norths or Manly do to Balmain or Wests? Norths turned down the Superleague franchise that helped the ARL survive. They stood along side Wests and Balmain.

2/ I have always cared about other clubs surviving. Unlike you apparently.

Central coast bears has no history.
North Sydney bears has history.

I also don't think noyce said anything about the
central coast team,it was in general.
We merged because we had to as it being 14 team
comp.

Me,I wanted the maggies to merge,I also don't
care much about another team.
i don't care as long as the weststigers
are there.

I do love express stadium.Good ground to watch the footy.

It all boils down to money Big Steve

The Tigers and some other clubs think they will be worse off out of any expansion.

Personally i fail to see how with the Bears plan, while the Bears are in Singo's pocket.

In all honesty are we just gonna have 15 teams forever? with these clubs and their mentality.

And yes that Souths Comment is garbage.

Big-Steve to be honest I think your nit-picking!

Now in saying that really only the GC and CC have a chance of gaining entry

On top of this the NRL 1st needs to decide if it is actually viable before it will be thrown to the other clubs to see what they think about the idea!

Noyce is right we did sign a contract and Balmain and Western Suburbs supporters did give away many years of tradition to join together to play in the top grade even though Balmain did infact meet the criteria.

Did Noyce Mention the Bears at all ????
Did Noyce Mention the Central Coast ????

The simple fact is that the CC have put a proposal to the NRL and they can knock it back even before anyone else gets a look at it, on top of which your a 1-3 chance of even getting selected if infact the NRL decides that they think the game can cope with a 16th team

The Bears went bankrupt. There are already too many teams in Sydney and environs.

Maybe North Sydney can get together with a non bankrupt club and convince them to relocate to the Central Coast in a joint venture........

i think the point is the agreement that balmain and wests signed to form the merger was on the basis the competition had only 14 teams. Adding another team will make this 16 teams and i can understand that many traditional balmain and wests supporters and members of management would have a problem with this.
I personally would love to see the Bears back in but it is a bit unfair if u think about it from a tigers view. we merged just as u did but then you get to become a single entity thanks to you not having enough money and support to last in the joint venture?? It does make more sense to me for a gold coast based team to be included for the good of rugby league despite always liking the Norths. In saying this, no matter which team gets picked,if any, I will be all for it and wish them the best. I just think people need to seperate themselves from their teams and think whats best for league.

Noyce talks about history AND mentions Souths but no mention of the Bears.

Denying a 16th team is the same as denying a Central Cast Bears and therefore any chance of the Bears being represented in the NRL.

I've come too far for too long not to be considered in the same light as Souths, Wests, Balmain or any other team.

we were gonna move to the central coast... til proceedings on the stadium were halted... im sure youd hate it if you got kicked out

you have no idea what its like when your teams in a merge or what its like not having a team at all

That is exactly what adds insult to injury .......the fact we were trying to do good for the game all whilst being encouraged to do so. Then get left high and dry at the end of it all.

The Bears = Rugby League Martyrs :D

I don't want to sound argumentative, but are you certain that the Central Coast would get the 16th team? or are you hopeing they will?

mate--noyce is against the expansion not because he is anti bears but because the tigers and wests made a decision for a joint venture, because the league made it clear it was a 14 team comp and maybe even a 12 team comp.from a bears point of view,if a central coast team did get in-it will be a stand alone central coast team and not a north sydney stroke central coast team-i loved the bears-north sydney oval, the morton bay figs, but they are gone gone gone.dont give noyce a hard time, west and the tigers made some hard decision-and after a pretty shaky start, their is some sun starting to shine=manly bears merger was a shocker-but would you do deal with the eagles---not on your life
back when the sullivan were on tele and no 96,you had the blue bags and the bears, but those days are gone-dont blame the tigers/wests combo-they made the hard and right play-you forget news limited runs the show not the nrl--if singo ran the show maybe their would be room for tigers bears magpies and blue bags, like the old days-but with rupert in charge that aint going to happen--get off noyce's back--its all about keeping your own joint going

What the same as it was to deny Balmain and Wests to run around as individual clubs in the NRL before they merged simular to Manly and Norths to form the Northern Eagles????

The simple fact of the matter is that your not in the compition, Noyce has to represent Balmain, Western Suburbs and of course the Wests Tigers - now if he come out and said we will support a 16th team despite both Balmain and Wests coming to an agreement for the JV for only 14 teams then he will be having supporters from his own club asking for his head!!!

I do feel sorry for you but your not the only one without a club think about Newtown, Balmain and Western Suburbs supporters who only get a chance at watching their club run around in the lower grades ( Yes there are people how just go to watch Balmain and Wests and not the Wests Tigers) and not to mention Illawarra who will be bought out by the Dragons very very shortly!

From some stories I've read the main 'problem' in expanding to a 16th team could be the ARL.

The NRL and News Limited would be able to afford to expand to 16 teams but the ARL may not be able to (partly due to Optus wanting their money back).

It doens't get mentioned in every story about expansion, but it has been in some.

I'm not assuming anything about the NRL's decisions (I'm not even sure they know).

I kinda wish I had not started this thread. Clearly I'm fustrated and angry at the moment and proberbly at the wrong people so sorry to all Traditional Wests and Tigers fans. But mate Newtown are not fighting for a 20% representation in the NRL. If they were great.

West and Balmain should never have been forced to merge they are just as important as the Bears. But they at least have 50% interest in an NRL club.

The reality is that Wests and Balmain are able to survive as Premier League teams because they are feeders to a dedicated NRL club. Norths are not and this is what we are asking for. all be it only 20%.

It's fine for Noyce to argue against a 16th team if he thinks that's right but Mr Noyce don't insult me by telling me it has to do with tradition. If it did the Bears would be in.

Steve I feel for you. Balmain was my club first and foremost, but living in the area I had a huge soft spot for them. I'd go as far as to say I supported both clubs. For both to get the chop (Balmain and Norths) was shattering.

However I think your are being harsh and Norths. Steven Noyce's point is, the tigers and the magpies merged under the guidelines the game could only sustain 14 teams, and there would only that many. So why should another team be allowed in if it is unsustainable?

For the record I would love to have Norths back, in whatever form. However I also support the stance of Mr. Noyce.

I agree.

On that note I'ld like to formally sign off from this thread. I don't think it's productive and I'm not enjoying arguing with my fellow traditional supporters. :(
