Wests Tigers Side Vs Canberra

On a positive side....our backline has a bit of size about it this year.1-5 all six footers or more.

I like that.
Pity the donkey on the wing can't catch - either a pass right on his chest or a high ball - both faults that were still present in the trial against the rooters. Moltzen is pretty untried under the high ball as well. Going to be interesting to see whether the Raiders (and every other team) look to exploit that.

Pack looks decent enough IMO. Should be enough to get past Canberra, but probably one Class Prop short in order to beat the Big Guns,

If we have a good run with Injuries etc, I think we can scrape into the 8 especially if Benj & Farah hot their stride.

Should be interesting how Harrison goes- he had no hesitation in saying he hated playing prop and enjoys Canberra now for playing in the backrow.

Oh man. Ellis is gonna flatten him to prove that he is a worthy replacement. I can see those massive shoulders connecting in my mind.
Surley we'll run from dummy half everytime Harrison is marker. We'd have learnt that over the last 4 years?

Unfortunately we start the season:

* 1 player short on roster- seems no-one wants to come to WT.
* in potential salary cap troubles wiht 24 players let alone 25.
* in process of shopping out Fulton to ESL allegedly because of the salary cap issue.
* already lost 1 of the 24 band of merry men (Lazarus) to a season ending injury.
* continued disruption with Benji Marshall's future- will he / wont he re-sign and the Teflon Tim's positional halfback experiment with him.
* uncertainty over fullback position with Teflon Tim keeping Gallant on the outer despite his obvious claims- are we set for a repeat of the Matthew Head debacle of last year?
* no obvious remedy as yet to the terrible defensive record WT have inflicted upon themselves under Simmons tutelage in the past few seasons.
* pretty sure we will have to wrap Farah in cotton wool and hope to hell he does not aggrivate his back / hip injuries during season.

and to top it off:
* the usual empty mouthings / bits of wisdom by Teflon Tim, now known via the media as the WT's mentor (not coach)- when did that lovely role change happen? Does that mean he is leaving more and more things to Simmons and Gentle now as assistant coachs whilst he spouts his pearls of wisdom?

Now can you give us a round-up of the positives for 2009?

Positives:

* Ellis looks good and hopefulyl this will continue into the season proper.
* Teflon is ARL coach.
* Marshall has re-signed so hopefully there will be no further unsetlting disruption on that front.
* Farah is back.
* Backline looks solid without being overly flash and with good back up to cover injuries.
* Backrow is pretty good.
* Props OK (but lets pray for no major injuries with them)

Major concern (with the team):

* the halfback experiment, it will either go well for us or very, very bad when the pressure is put on by the opposition teams.

* the unknown sleeper maybe any continued trouble on the salary cap issue- if we are in the danger zone with 24 players, what comes next when the new contracts for next year and beyond kick in for Farah and Marshall? ie- midway through season when contract renewal talks begin- a large chunk of the players are coming up for renewal / pissing off- have to either bid for them or bid for their replacement. Team harmody could implode.

I think you've got it covered nicely...

Daine Laurie was named in the Magpies state cup team. Not a happy camper. I was looking forward to seeing him walk on top of some Raiders.
