Do you know if the mascot was Mark(Wallington) the magpie???Jeffles said:A lot of razzle dazzle Jets tries. I guess they were exploiting Magpies defence. No Duffy and no Fulton was a let down.
Newtown had shocking defence at the and. It was 36-10 but then Newtown let in 3 tries. Col Murphy was absolutely dirty. We cannot afford to put the brakes on. It's not like we were gonna lose but you should work on your defence.
An average crowd in. It stresses the importance of double headers for Newtown. Great to see another good Magpies turnout from the diehards and good to see the mascot.
Yeah..thanks for that Gobbsie,Im sure the kid doing fine job replacing Mark the Magpie.Although I don't think anyone does it quite like Mark, with that silly hand on one hip the other hand waving and his legs facing inward aka pigeon style. And when he falls backwards with the legs up in the air and with convulsion's once someone has scored against us.Gobbso said:The 'legendary' Mark Wallington hung up the feathers and more recently tail at the end of the 2002 Season Max. A new young kid has taken of the reigns, and is doing a mighty fine job ;-)
Innsaneo, champion right back at ya. My old man seen Junior kicking the footy around on Henson at half-time, and said "have a go at that little fella, sign him up for Wests quick smart" i turned to him and said, don't worry Dad, it's already been done 8)
The Game, full credit to the Bluebag-Jets. Better side won on the day. They played simple football and won. Western Suburbs couldn't take a trick. Field the fat little rodent, just kept turning the ball niside, and the hapless Maggies were just being bulldozed up the guts. As pointed out, lack of commitment in defense, and overall lacked direction in attack.
To Newtown fans, congrats and well done. Great bunch of people, have a laugh with a few of you, and i think its great, that you people still get out and support you're beloved team. That was Rugby League at it's best. Where did the game go wrong? If they could only turn back time and realise what they have done?![]()

Are you suggesting that it does'nt have the same atmosphere when you go to Olympic park in Melbourne. And watch say the Storm vs Cowboy's!! ;-)Jeffles said:It also has a tradition that is missing in other comps.
where were they standing in the boot's and on the roof's of car's???????yappy said:Yeah 305 thousand people musta been pretty cramped at Henson.
I think my Grandad would have been there that day - unfortunately, he dies a year before I was born, and I only just found out that he was a mad maggies fan, used to go to all the games and so forth - he no doubt towed my dad along, who was only interested in the hotdogs!Gobbso said:Interesting to note, that the record crowd figure at Henson occured in 1959, when the Magpies took on St. George in a game there when Pratten Park was unavailable. The two teams played infront of 30,500 spectators. Amazing ![]()
