Weyman could be out for season
June 24, 2005
The 20-year-old was due to make his comeback in about four weeks, but Raiders medical staff discovered this week that both screws had snapped.
Weyman will consult a specialist in Sydney next week, but it is very likely he will require another operation. If so, he will be sidelined for another three months.
This is extremely disappointing for Mick, said Raiders coach Matt Elliott. Hes done everything right in his rehab and hes worked extremely hard to try and get back on the field. Hes the last person who deserves this kind of bad luck.
Were going to support him as a club and make sure he gets the best rehabilitation program we can provide. Our thoughts on Mick remain the same - hes a representative player of the future.
A former Australian Schoolboys captain, Weyman has been cursed by injuries since making his NRL debut in 2003. He has played 12 NRL matches.
The Raiders have recently boosted their forward depth, adding New Zealand forwards Jason Williams and Andrew Lomu to their squad. Both will play in tomorrow nights match against the North Queensland Cowboys at Canberra Stadium. Kick-off is 5.30pm.
Canberra Raiders prop Michael Weyman is likely to miss the remainder of the NRL season after further complications with his ankle injury.
Weyman injured ankle ligaments during Canberras Round 5 win over the Roosters, requiring an operation to insert two screws.
