Dragons' Weyman facing one-game ban
By Steve Jancetic
AAP

St George Illawarra prop Michael Weyman is facing a one-match ban after being hit with a high-tackle charge by the match review committee.
The in-form front rower was found to have a case to answer after collecting Parramatta rival Fuifui Moimoi with a swinging arm across in the face in Friday night's 22-8 win to the Dragons.
Weyman is paying the price for his bad-boy past with the grade one careless high-tackle charge carrying only a 75-point base penalty, which would not have been enough to see him miss Saturday night's clash against Newcastle.
But loading from three prior offences over the last two years - including one similar transgression - boosted his penalty to beyond the 100-point mark at which a one-week suspension kicks in.
Melbourne fullback Billy Slater was cleared of any wrongdoing over his controversial sliding tackle on Penrith winger Shane Elford, but the same could not be said for Storm teammate Will Chambers.
Chambers was charged with a dangerous throw for his ungainly lifting tackle on Panthers fullback Lachlan Coote, though the Melbourne centre can avoid suspension with an early guilty plea.
It's the same for North Queensland hooker Aaron Payne, who will also be cleared to make the trip to Adelaide to play Cronulla on Sunday with an early guilty plea.
Payne was charged with for unnecessary arm/shoulder pressure, an manoeuvre more commonly known as the chicken wing.
All players have until midday Tuesday to enter their pleas.

Looked like just a slap in the face but i guess with his prior record he'll just cop it.

Yeah, it was very soft, but there's no point contesting it this early in the season.

It was such a vicious strike that as soon as the penalty was given, Moi Moi was able to get straight up and take the next hit up.

He should fight it , only going to be a 1 match ban anyway if he loses anyway, so nothing to lose

Should be, from what I heard he just had a light quad strain. Should be right if he took care of it.

Come on GKD you could tell he milked it, the look to the left over to the ref straight after the hit said it all really.

I wouldnt call Moi Moi soft, far from it. But he clearly went down on purpose from that hit on Friday night.

Question:

Will this rubbish ruin Weyman's game for the rest of his career ?

i.e. everytime he does something minor will he be sidelined for stuff he has done in the past ? do we really have to wait 3 years before accidents / careless tackles allow a changed player to succeed ?

My point is, he obviously has changed and the careless in question was barely a penalty let alone a report and now he's sitting out, he's top of his position and will only get better.

Appologies as I don't understand the whole judiciary rules as i tend to tune out on anything like this in disgust.

Well by the sound of things he'll only be at our club wil the end of '09, so hopefully he'll just carry his tab back to Canberra. :sarcasm:

He signed a 2 year deal, so end of 2010.

blackberryman, It has been reported that Weyman doesnt intend to stay with the Dragons long term, that he wants to return to Canberra when his contract is up..that was before he even started training with the Dragons however.
The way that Bennett has turned his career around, you'd think he might want to remain a Dragon now..i hope so anyway.
