proven we wont be easy-beats?
i might be biased but even at our lowest of lows, we have never been considered easy beats (1982 aside), you've always had to turn up against us ready to play, occasionally ya get lucky, we play rubbish and you stroll away with an easy win but we've never been a consistant easy beat ala souths, pre-2000 warriors, or pre-2003ish cowboys etc

The Warriors were hardly an easybeat pre 2000. They finished 10th and 11th out of 20 teams in the 1995-1996 seasons, and while their finishing positions were ordinary in 97-99 they still managed to win atleast 7-10 games in each of those seasons, and often lost narrowly due to fading in the last 20 minutes.

True easy beats of years gone by were the Wests team of 1999, absolutely woeful team full of nuffies that were routinely thrashed by big margins and had the worst for and against ever. Also some of the early Cowboys team, the Crushers of 96-97 a number of Souths teams circa 95-98, Gold Coast were usually considered easybeats for much of their first life.

Even the Souths side of 2006 isn't really an easy beat, atleast not a par with the Wests team of '99. They always lose but they often put up a fight.

Some of the fans on these forums probably are too young to remember true easybeats.

They epitomise guts. They have done (generally) for the past 5 years. Hell in 2003 (?) they made the top 4 off sheer determination. Honestly if I didn't hate Canberra so much they'd be hard not to like. I was cheering for them tonight which I must say I found immensely surprising.

Bravo.

They are a very very admirable team....Ive said this many a time to Raiders fans...hard not to like that team....the fans on the other hand, well......:(

Is this the same team with a 20 nil lead on the Roosters in round 3 and were beaten 56-20 ?

Last night they were superb. How can you pick winners these days ?

Congratulations on the win first of all.

2nd of all the problem now is will the Raiders back it up and show some consistent form? They really need to make sure they win and win well against Souths to build some momentum.
Consistentcy in winning results will be a problem for the Raiders.

However if they are consistent in those defensive efforts it may well be a great season where future success is built.

Maybe the second half of 2001 is the only time you've been easybeats in recent times.

Sure was a great win last night though. Chalk's chargedown was amazing, that's the sort of crazy-ass thing you read about Dally Messenger doing back in the day!

Well remembering back to 1995 doesn't exactly make you ancient!

Worst side I've ever seen play is the Gold Coast Seagulls. Never won more than 7 games in a season, won three consecutive wooden spoons, in 1991 won only two games, in 1993 won only ONE game! Never finished higher than 14 out of 16 teams. Wests in 1999 were bad, but they didn't have the consistency of seven years of absolute crapness that the Seagulls could boast.

They still managed to beat Newcastle just about every time they bloody well played though.

There were only 2 sides the great 94 raiders didn't beat, the panthers and the seagulls.

Settle down, you. I meant after coming 2nd-last last year, and then getting 70 points put on them this year, they could have packed up shop. They've shown a lot of grit to turn that around.

I've always had tons of admiration for the Raiders, and I've even been a supporter of Matt Elliot, believe it or not!

I remember that game against the GC. I think the Raiders were still pissed from the night before when they ran out.

I think we need to have a big win against the rabbits, that will get our season really up and running.
