What did we learn tonight

Just because you will have a good impact does that mean you sould be benched?

Both Mateo AND Mortimer should start, they should be able to make an impact for the WHOLE GAME. And surely Mateo is more capable than just a measly 40 odd minutes? He should be playing 60 or more.

Hayne, imo, was the spark out there tonight. Everything that happened - or look like happening - came from his vision.
Hindy is struggling big time, might be getting past it, even though I had him in my top 3 Eels
The defence of Joel Reddy Ben Smith and EGJ left a lot to be desired.
West punctured their side of the paddock everytime they ventured that way.
Robson, and the Keatings have no idea when it comes to tactical kicking. None.
Tim Mannah was strong.
If EGJ had scored in first half it would have changed the complexion of the match. It was a simple case of catch it and you're in. Wests scored a couple of arsey tries through kicks..Good skills, but full of blot..
I enjoy your posts more when you speak footy. Very good observation re Grothe.

hahah finally I agree with you.

For mine, the Hindy point is very valid.

I will tell you what I learnt tonight.

Matt Keating is crap and we really miss Kingston. All our forwards except mannah need a kick up the arse.

When Robson dummies its like a 3 second delay. Just pass it to Tahu, you goose.

Kris Keating runs a bit like Coyote chasing Road Runner. Looks fast but gets nowhere.

The overall attitude of the whole team is crap , no intensity whatsoever - hit ups are slow and lumbering , defence doesn't move up ...there seems to be no enthusiasm there at all at the moment and until that changes they won't go anywhere .

What we have learnt is what most other teams already know about us ... we are a very lazy football team, in cricket parlance they would call us 'flat track bullies'
When everything is working well, we look a million dollars. When there is a need to buckle down - we are just too lazy to do it.
At the end of last year, we were confident and everything we touched turned to gold. This year the bounce of the ball is against us.
Instead of buckling down, we give away silly penalties and drop the ball.
Lazy lazy lazy.....

we are no worse then we were in the 1st 3 rounds last year and we ended up playing in the GF.

Exactly.

There's no need to panic. We were awesome last year and teams are lifting to play us. The Tigers were up for it this week and were awesome in defence.

No team can be up every week. So far we haven't been up at all except for the second half against Manly.

We do need a take-charge halfback but we needed one of those last year too. Would be nice if Poore started playing like he did last year because he's been sh*thouse so far. He just looks like a big fat slug. I hope he doesn't become another Aaron Cannings.

Otherwise I thought we were just flat. It didn't help that the Tigers were so committed in defence. We might go better next week or we might save it for mid-season.

I didn't read past this post that I've quoted becuase it makes so much sense and is simple.
I can't believe Delboy said what he did. If I didn't know any better, I'd suggest he was having a lend of us all, with such off the cuff and premature summations.
Hey Delboy. It's Round 3. Settle down buddy. You've provided us with better insights than this before. Had a night on the cans maybe? :?

My thoughts, Horo looked the goods tonight. Inu looked great and personally I would like him and Burt to be the wingers. Hindy did look flat tonight but he did lose one of his best little mates during the week. Mannah, great and should push for a starting role and Poore needs to show why we paid him the dollars.

Penalties and dropped balls I feel have been the biggest killers, we seem to get on the back foot very early in the game because of these issues.

But, it's round 3 and we looked even worse last year, but would be great just for once to see Parra dominate early and put some teams to the sword, just my own opinion.

Sorry but I believe I heard Archer say that the pass from Reddy to Grothe was forward, so he could have caught it, done 10 backflips with a half-pike, twist plus a double sommersault and place it under the sticks, the try still wouldn't have been given (if I heard correctly).

Valid, but raise your hand if you're as pissed off as I am with these bullsh*t softcock laws of modern day rugby league.

:nwave:

The penalty on Ben Smith in the first half for taking out a guy without the ball almost seen me needing a new telly. He pops a pass 0.98 seconds before Smith is committed to the tackle, Benny gives him a "hows your father" and FFS *WHISTLE* it's a penalty. Bloke is dusty (I don't believe he dived as Gus was suggesting), but gets up and plays on. What's the hassle?

And can someone please explain to me what is so f**king bad about tackling a guy, and in the process of getting to your feet placing your hand on the ball? You haven't stripped it, the opposition still has it, you haven't prevented anything. *WHISTLE* FFS another penalty.

Also pissed off with the inconsistency tbh...eg Hayne was pulled back down after getting to his feet, lost it as a result, knock on?

That shot by Smith should never be a penalty

100% agree.

It's become so frustrating to watch.

Just wanted to clarify that those things, ie. softcock penalties, sh*t me when I watch all games, not just ones in which the Eels feature.

I really wonder what the older guys of league like Raper, Gasnier, and even Sterlo and players of those eras really, REALLY think of some of the bullsh*t laws that are making our game

100% agree.

It's become so frustrating to watch.

And you know why?

Because people like Phil Gould have to analyse every f**king single piece of play with a million replays and cast their opinions on everything.
The refs are becoming scared to make a wrong decision.
