What do the Warriors need to win a premiership?

I don't think citing other one-team cities negates what may or may not be happening at the Warriors. Every team, city and environment is different, especially a team in a whole different country.

Dean makes a good point about the boys club IMO, and it's a point I tried to make on the previous page but didn't word it as succintly. I too often get that perception of the Warriors, particularly given I live in NZ but support a team other than the Warriors. The way the Warriors are perceived by the public and the media over here I always find quite interesting, and I don't think the players get called out on half the bullshit they should get called out on. I very much agree with WellsNZ's point about the coach having all the accountability and the players mostly having none also.

Frankly, Ive never seen more negative media articles about footy teams than I have about the Warriors over the years. You know the lazy racist stereotype that is perpetrated in this thread, they are big and strong but dumb and with no smarts or toughness.

Being that they are considered a "secondary" sport in there own country means they don't get anywhere near the press coverage of Union.

19 seasons isn't along time in League terms, it took other teams a lot longer to win there first Grand Final, that fact that the Warriors have played in two in this timeframe is a great achievement.

Those articles must be in Aussie, because there certainly isn't widespread and constant negativity towards the Warriors in NZ. And certainly no articles perpetuating racist stereotypes, even by our average media standards in NZ you wouldn't last 5 minutes writing that rubbish. Then again I didn't see those stereotypes being perpetuated in this thread either and you do so perhaps you see things I don't.

The way the Warriors played against the Dragons in Round 26 was nothing short of a disgrace. Considering their season was on the line the way they turned up and didn't even look interested was shocking. That's no stereotyping that's just the facts of the situation. Obviously they came in for some criticism following that game but nothing like what they deserved. It's almost like people just shrug now and say 'well that's the Warriors for you.' That's not good enough if you ask me. The Warriors have the resources in place now that the fans should be entitled to expect better.

Rabs and Gus told me they need more of that Warriors style jungle ball or a couple more big Kiwi forwards...

Could apply to a lot of clubs however.

Regardless, do people really think all thats required for the Warriors on field fortunes to change is a change in media coverage???

Just to expand on this, I know most of us seem to agree that the Warriors problem isn't lack of on-field talent, but I reckon I recognise the problem they have in this area because the Knights had the same problem. Bennett probably said it best when he said that you get off the bus and wonder if the opposing team lost any sleep over you the night before. The 'big and fearsome' Warriors pack is a myth created by commentators that maybe used to be true 5 years ago but isn't any more. There's no Campion, Wiki or Price anymore. Mannering seems decent enough but is he the kind of guy who will rip into the other players if they're not putting in? Who are their enforcers/leaders now?

Do Warriors fans think that is fair? Personally I think it's a real problem for them.

The cliché description of the "big brutal Warriors" has been a farce for a long time now as you have alluded to. Most New Zealand league fans who actually watch them realise this, but it's hilarious how often the TV shows, commentators, the magazines and even players just constantly trot the same lines out, "they're big boys" blah blah blah. It was true at one point, but they're obviously paying very little attention and continue to work on the idea that the Warriors are full of all the big brown boys. Packs like the Dogs and the Bunnies make the Warriors look small and almost everyone has a good stash of polys nowadays.

Better talent scouting. the Aussie clubs are loaded with kiwi talent that if identified by the Warriors first would make them a powerhouse.

Half of our side in 2013 were born in NZ. If they'd kept a few of them for themselves they'd be in good shape.

RTS the Warriors were interested, FPN was a Warriors junior but really for his own good had to get out of Auckland do Cleary ditched. The others are from so long ago it's barely relevant.
