They did it for the summer of 2010 only, that's when LeBron is off contract. Big call, doing that for no guarantee of signing Bron but they had to do it.

They will be trying like buggery to move Curry between now and then as well.

chances r they wont move curry well if they do it will not benefit them at all in terms of the player they get 4 him, it says hes out for the season, plus marbury's contract expires at the end of the year, so they may have some cap room, they r gonna need a big offer to get Lebron to NYC, something i dont think the cavs can match.

He'll almost certainly end up in New York, but i will laugh for days if he signs somewhere else and the Knicks are left standing with their dick in their hands. Would be the perfect icing on the giant sh*t cake that has been the last decade of Knickerbocker basketball.

Even if Lebron passes them up...The 2010 free agent market is full of stars for them to pursue...

The whole NY situation is f**king dumb. What happens if the Cavs win a ring this year or the next, which is a very likely possibility. Imo that would change everything. I'm not saying he won't go, just that a sh*tload can happen in two years. I don't get why Lebron has to go to NY because its big time. Jordan didn't need NY to become a global superstar, don't see why the same can't apply to Lebron.

PS. Despite my post, i think it would kinda be funny to see Lebron go to NY. Would send Cavs basketball back to the "good old days".

I still think the Nets are a good chance at signing him, although their move to Brooklyn being put on hold might change that. In all probability he'll go to the Knicks but it isn't signed, sealed and delivered yet.

Either way, New York will have plenty of cap space and there'll be Wade, Bosh, Stoudemire & others to attract if they don't get the King. They'll land one of those fish.

Nobody's talking about the Magic, but they'll have a bit of space come the summer of 2010 with Howard, Lewis & Nelson the only guys on the book after that season. Which perimeter player in their right mind wouldn't want to play with the new Superman? A Howard / Wade combo would be like the new Shaq / Kobe and Lewis is the perfect compliment to them, ideal third guy.
