Earlier this year after home games the Jets went back to the Marrickville bowling club but then stopped. It was far more convenient than going to the Jets(especially when you live the opposite way) I heard the Jets were trying to take over the Bowling club not sure if true but did it happen?

It was nice and close to Henson and my mates could walk there as opposed to catching a cab.

Unfortunately the Marrickville Bowling Club declined our overtures despite our bringing crowds to the place for once. Ultimately we can't keep going there if the support isn't reciprocated. I know it's more convenient to go to certain places but at the same time we need to support those who support the Jets. For this reason I haven't been in the Henson Park Hotel for years. The Golden Barley Hotel in Enmore have been really good supporters of ours and they have been encouraged by the match day crowds we've brought to that place.

Thanks Jeffles, the reason I asked is that I met some friends there last weekend and it was doing a roaring trade and a lady who I remember from the Jets Sports and Henson Park was working there so I thought the Jets must have taken it over.

She was saying the club is fully booked for functions til the end of the year as well.

Thanks again for clearing it up.

I know the lady you're talking about. She moved across. The Jets have not taken it over. There would have been a song and dance if they had.

Why do they sell Jets merchandise then, it is strange they will not sponsor the club yet the club still allows gear to be sold there so while they give no direct financial support they appear to be a pseudo sponsor.

I would suggest in order to get people out of the pub on game day have a happy hour at the game to encourage them to drink at Henson as the $4 a can is a bit stiff for a not so icy cold beer which was the case this year.

I'll be happy if the GBH becomes the unofficial leagues club. Good people, good atmos, good grub and close to my house.:D

How many pubs sell NRL gear?
and all outlets pay the NRL a licensing fee while I belive the Jets own their own brand do they not!

With Jets merchandise how much revenue does the club make from the gear each year given its popularity. I read a couple of years ago in the paper the your GM said it sodl aboyt 100k a year which is tremendous.

The HPH make out to be pseudo sponsors and many who attend games do not know this hence my idea of making your drinks a bit cheaper than $4 a can at least until kick off. It is worth looking at as many people on the hill were taking their own beer in.

Don't know. It's very enterprising of us to sell gear where people's faculties are clouded and they can be looser with money.

Correct except the Jets had to pay a licencing fee with official Centenary gear because it had all the Centenary markings. We may not pay a licencing fee for other gear but generally speaking our wholesale costs are more expensive because we cannot buy in bulk like other clubs.

Depends on where its bought and what kind of gear it is. The most revenue is made on non-Centenary, non-Throwbacks Jets gear sold at Henson Park because there are fewer licence/royalties to pay. 100K of clothing per year is revenue though. Profit is much much smaller.

I think it is common knowledge that the HPH are not sponsors. Selling the gear is some way of us making money from them. Lowering the price of beer might be something to consider but I think $4 is competitive with wat you see at other RL grounds and compared to the price of a schooner in a pub. As for taking beer in, this should not happen as the venue is licenced. Around once per game I have confiscated grog or told people to finish it before they enter the gate. If the Jets lose their liquor licence because of these breaches, it would threaten our bottom line more than any SG Ball team we field. You may well find security guards at Henson Park next year enforcing this very provision.

You will need people checking all cars Jeffles on the way in as they all sit over the other side near the carpark, I told Directors several times when I was on that gate and nothing happened.
It does put the revenue at risk but at $4 a can it is very steep, not that I drink ( I admit I do bring my own drinks in, PEPSI) but you cannot compare Henson with other grounds we are unique, little or no undercover seating and people do complain as they did about the lack of icy cold beer.

You may not hear these people from your lofty position up there in the lounge enjoying your position of making annoying calls to hard working people in the rain while you remain warm and dry. You are Scum Jeffles and you know it.

Good point BB - $4 is a rip-off. All good Jets fans know what a carton actually costs - and that's retail!

Good to see you are going to try and fix it up Jeffles!!!

Just because it's competitive with other RL grounds simply means they are ripping off the punters too! A schooner at a pub is cheaper, bigger, colder and covering a bit more overhead than than an old fridge and a couple of blokes volunteering to serve.
...of course you well know no jury would buy that argument Jeffles.

Ah...the off season.:D

$4 for 375ml of beer is the equivalent ratio as paying $4.53 for 425mL of beer. In other words, our can prices are the equivalent of a $4.53 schooner. I pay $4.20 for a schooner of Reschs at my local. Hardly much difference and to that end we have no pokies in Henson Park subsidising the grog. Further we have our own overheads to run which are more than you think. It's its own set of problems but at the end of the day Henson Park is still a cheaper day out than anywhere you can find and it's a long bow to draw to call it expensive. And of course, we're tryong to run a footy club. That doesn't come cheap.

heh heh.. Sorry Jeff, I was just a bit bored :D

after all, at what pub can you watch the mighty jets run around while you have a beer !!

go steady on those $4.20 Schooners of Resch's now, the average soapbox can only take so much weight

lets face it, 10 cans of beer for 40 bucks isnt a bad afternoon. If we start the night at henson, as the a grade often does, you wont hear any complaints there. I mean, you go anywhere else around and have ten beers, see if you still have ten bucks change from a Colonel Mustard.

Then you move onto Newtown and pay a fortune, but its okay cause youve got the first ten under your belt cheap.
