Maybe, but they have far more financially invested supporters and far more heavily financially invested supporters than any RL club in Sydney.
sydney nrl clubs have $11- $22mill football club revenue. Swans have $28.5mill (2021), the biggest in sydney.
But apparently not many tv viewers is a problem?

Why?

Take out a few years of Covid, I think you will find that the Warriors are the most followed and have the largest financial turnover of all NZ sports clubs.

Having returned to NZ, they are just resuming their position.

Happy to be corrected.
Nah. Except maybe in 2002-03 and possibly 2011 I doubt the Warriors would’ve eclipsed the Crusaders in support. They’ve got a solid niche but not that huge except if they get a good roll on.

No maybe. Ratings show niche following.
Attendances and turnover show a fantastic following. This is a far better demonstration of any sporting club’s following than television audiences. Any casual fan of other clubs can watch a game on TV. Sydney is a RL city, of course the ratings are better for RL matches. Doesn’t stop the Swans being the biggest football club in NSW.

TV shows widespread interest. Anybody who lives in Sydney can tell you swans support is niche

No it shows lazy arse interest. Revenue shows real interest. How many fans are willing to spend some $'s on the club they say they support is the true test of fanbase.

They wouldn't have eclipsed the Blues for support in 2003. (2002 probably as the Blues were still dud then).

Also, it's quite difficult to compare financial turnover directly as there's not one direct ownership of Super teams (plus they play nearly half the season of the Warriors).

I'm sure after 41 years in the beaut city of Sydney ,they would have expected better ratings than they are getting. And I dare say ditto Ch7.
It's one thing having good crowds which is no doubt a plus ,but when the ratings in the country's biggest commercial market and the state having the country's biggest population are still tres ordinary, advertisers might be saying when are we going to get more eyeballs watching here ?
And the Swans have had more leg ups from the press, SL war ,massive promotions etc to assist them along the way.

Im Sure if they hadnt just landed a $550mill tv deal they might care more about Sydney audiences lol

like nrl outside of heartland whilst the games are buried on digital channels they’ll never build audiences. It’s a handicap for both codes in building new audiences.

So you are of the opinion they don't care they are making little impact on the NSW viewing audience and GWS more so.LOL
If I were spending such huge sums on promotion and development and still people couldn't give a rats ,I'd be reducing my budget in that area. And you think sponsors who spend big busks are not concerned in that area. Spent some time in marketing 4 years to be exact and my employers did not like throwing good money around with little impact.
Of course they are happy with crowds and their sponsors, but their sponsors are not getting main FTA in NSW.
I'm aware of the issues Ala Melbourne Storm on a secondary channel, but the NRL has not spent the huge loot on them ,nor had the leg up the Swans have had in Sydney.Get a SL style war in the AFL and see the result.
That's why any expansion that has shown to be successful on both accounts was exhibited by the Dolphins.Main FTA check, sponsors check, crowds check in heartland.
That's why expansion outside heartland has to be thoroughly done and tested.

100%. Swans have had only 5 losing seasons in 28 years & only one during covd where they weren't in running for finals. Lots of money & manipulation to achieve that & still no TV ratings..

I might be reading this wrong but are you saying that the warriors are already the "second niche" club in Christchurch, and a dedicated Christchurch club would play second fiddle to the warriors? ala. Gws to the Swans?

I get the warriors have branded themselves "New Zealand" but in all but name they are an Auckland club, surely a club based purely out of Christchurch would Trump them? I was under the impression NZ had a strong "Auckland vs the rest" mentality in sports and rivalries
Not for Christchurch so much as NZ as a whole. Christchurch has a an effective total catchment of around 500K people. I'm not super convinced it can sustain a minority pro sports team. its borderline at best.
