in regards to merging the various governing bodies.

the governing bodies should fall under one supreme heirachy, but to extinguish them is ludicrous. the only way it would work is for QRL for example to remain exactly the same but it becomes a sub division of say the NRL. in the same way North Queensland is a sub division of the QRL.

News/9 have had long enough to prove their merit.

They've failed.

FFS, a campaign was mounted to get people to attend the centenary test match.

News finally resorted to a fan survey last year and over 75% said they wanted a 3PM kick off.

We were reluctantly given a 5PM start this year as some sort of compromise.

The other major issue I see is the need to bring weight divisions back into the juniors.

It's not just the Polynesian kids being physically dominant either.

1. National expansion
2. Salary Cap increase
3. Marketing
4. Media deal ($ and FTA national coverage)

Referees

How many of them are full time and what are they paid?

The NRL should employ around 10 full timers and pay them between $100 - $200K/year depending on their ranking. Referee evaluations should also then be made public.

Lack of strong leadership is the biggest issue. Tail always seems to be wagging the dog.

In other words, what is the major concern/issue that Rugby League (ie the NRL/ARL) needs to address to ensure its continual growth/success??

I voted for the size v age point because it's a "grass roots" problem that I witness every week, with my own 10yr old being monstered, but I think points 2, 3, 5, and 8 need addressing, and quickly.

what an accepting chap you are taipan, i wont get used to it, i demand the refs get their sh*t together or i'll find something else to watch/spend my money on.. , probably been doing it longer than you've lived.

There are thousands of people before me that have come to that conclusion and I'd hazard a guess and say there are thousands behind me. Dwindling crowd numbers prove my argument unlike your emotive piece of opinionated crap .

Although your little outburst was definitely dickheadish, what i was giving it to you about was leaving the 'N' out of NRL, f**king stupid idea but i suppose your resulting posts explain why

LOL.Suggest if you left the d*ckhead word out of your initial response, you may get a little courtesy in a debate. My point simply was if you want to be national, expand to WA eg otherwise the N in national is meaningless in the long run.
You can demand whatever you like,we all want referees to perform at all times.Human beings have and will always have one trait, they make mistakes even with the best technology,it happens in all sports.
I won't even bother to comment on the length of time I
have watched the game.
If you give it to someone by calling them a dhead, because you don't agree with their views, then expect an apt response.

onya mate, you didnt disapoint :)

With your referral to leaving the N out of NRL i assumed you were being anti-kiwi. Whilst I realise this is an inbred trait amongst most aussies may i also remind you that the NRL did expand some time ago and we had nuffy teams like the crushers and reds. They couldnt hack it so i suggest looking further afeild to places like Wellington or Christchurch.
You (aussie clubs) dont seem to be slow in coming forward with regard to the growing numbers of fine young kiwi atheletes bolstering your club's flagging ranks.

I don't think being "National" is just about where we have NRL teams. It is about how many areas get the game FTA live, how many states and territories have a vibrant school and local comp, how many NRL games are taken on the road around the country, how much print media coverage does the game get across the country, how many people know who the Kangaroos capt is, how many people know the Kangaroos play RL!, attracting national companies to the game and do we have NRL teams in every major city and population centre.

Being National is about the whole country knowing and caring RL exists! (ps same for the whole of NZ!)

The issue of bringing back John Fifita disturbs me greatly.

Well the way the Dragons recruitment committee have behaved in recent years, its not completely beyond the realms of possibility. But if anyone can turn pigsh!t into strawberry jam its Mr Bennett.

I agree with the Preacher - kids league needs an overhaul to ensure kids dont get hammered week to week by giants of the same age, lose interest and head to other sports.

But Country RL is bleeding badly in many regions & needs a massive injection. How to solve it I dont know but they cant be forgotten. Got many associates in the bush & clubs are dying left right & centre. Very sad.
