What is the Minor Premiership worth?

$100k is f**k all in the grand scheme of things today.. what's the salary cap these days? $6.8m? that's like 1.5% of the wages a club pays just the top players..

for mine, think it needs to be better rewarded.. the NRL season is a marathon, not a sprint.. you've got obstacles like origin to deal with, and there needs to be good recognition for being the most consistent team over what is effectively half a year.

and at the risk of igniting the annual finals debate, this was a great feature of the old top 5.. it really rewarded the team who came first:
- you only had to win one game to be in the GF
- any team who wins the comp had to defeat the minor premier at some point in the finals campaign (it was impossible to lift the trophy without knocking off the team who was best all year).

I remember hearing that it was $100k and thought that it seemed ridiculously low. That would cover the salary of two U20's players for a year.

Maybe they should switch it up for that.

Skip the cash and get two U 20's as butlers.

I thought the prize money has stayed where it is because the clubs wanted an increase to the club grant instead

It should be worth more, as should the premiership.
$500k for the minor, $1mil for the big one.

7 years on and the minor premiership is still worth $100 000. The Melbourne Storm owner Matthew Tripp has slammed the paltry amount. He also suggest that the AFL makes it more worth while for clubs to do well in the finals, and the NRL won't be taken seriously till it matches the money.

However AFL does not offer any amount for their minor premiership. Tripp also makes the same point as posters on this forum that $100 000 does not go a long way for a club.

Heres a proposal....

Every club takes 100k out of their own Club Grant and chucks it in a kitty. At the end of the season, the winner takes the $1.6m. Easy.

Obviously no one will agree to that as this is clearly just an attempt to gouge MORE money out of the ARLC. So how about this: The reward for running first is getting the huge home crowds.

(unless you cant get anyone to care about your team, then you deserve nothing...)

The more money you put up the more inclined clubs will be to do whatever it takes to win it.

The game has had enough salary cap cheating, we don't need to give incentive for further cheating.

After winning three in a row, for a lavishly grand reward of 300k, it wouldn't surprise me if the NRL now increase the prize fund this year.

Just to troll us.

Which is outrageous. It should be $500K and two shots at getting into the GF. That is why the McIntyre Final 8 system sucks.
Good thing the McIntyre system sucks because it hasn't been used for several seasons...
