The first thing Cleary did when he went to Penrith was break up the boys club and cut out the cancerous elements. It didn't make him particularly popular with the playing group at the time but the board and CEO backed him all the way and, as a result, the club is in a far stronger position now than it was 12 months ago, despite losing two of its most popular and dextrose players.
For mine, Potter is trying to do the same as Cleary: breaking up the boys club, cutting out the cancer and building a new culture, one of hard work and accountability. I sincerely hope that the Tigers board look at the bigger picture here rather than caving to player pressure; with their track record, however, I'm not at all confident.
